Eagles OL Shawn Andrews Proves '08 NFL Soap Opera Goes Beyond Favre

With personalities such as Deion Sanders, Terrell Owens, and Chad Johnson, the NFL over the years has started to resemble a soap opera.  You could probably give out an award each year for biggest drama queen, most bizarre story, most annoying story, most over-hyped story...etc. 

So for fun, let's take a look at one particular player who is in the running for most intriguing preseason storyline.

While Brett Favre is the clear front-runner, you have to look no further than Eagles Pro Bowl offensive lineman Shawn Andrews for his closest competition. Andrews failed to show up for the start of Eagles training camp last Thursday night and can been fined $15,000 per day.

The Eagles' official statement on the matter is that, "Shawn is not in camp for personal reasons but his absence is not excused," meaning it is not like Shawn is dealing with a death in the family or the birth of a child.

Coach Andy Reid added that it has nothing to do with his contract or his weight.

Shawn has also released a message of his own through the local media saying that his reasons for not being there are not contractual. He added that he's working on the issue, but when asked if he'd be back soon, he responded with "that's tricky."

Andrews missed mini-camp back in June with the same "personal reason." What on earth was plaguing him back in June that still plagues him now?  He knew he had to be in camp by July 24th.  He's known that for the last five months.

So what's going on?  The lack of information available to the general public has stirred all kinds of rumors. 

Is he back to being 400 pounds?  Is he depressed again? Is he going to fail a drug test?  Is he hurt?  Is he just being his usual immature self?  The list goes on and on. 

So guess what Shawn? I like you, I'm sensitive to whatever you're going through, but honestly I'm sick and tired of prima donna athletes and how much money they make.  So I'm going to punk you out.  I hate to do it because I'm an Eagles fan, but enough is enough. So I'm releasing the information to the public, I apologize in advance.

OK, so the real reason that Shawn Andrews has not shown up is that he recently had rhinoplasty surgery, which is the fancy term for a nose job.  This was actually Andrew's second operation, his first came in June, which was not to Andrew's liking. 

Board Certified surgeon Jeff Doyle performed the second operation last Tuesday and has advised Shawn to avoid any type of contact for two weeks. 

So that explains his absence from physical contact, but apparently he doesn't want to even face his teammates until the bandages are off and he's fully healed. 

Shawn could be looking at over $100,000 in fines by the time he finally reports to camp, but at least he'll have the nose he always wanted.
