Major League Soccer Weekend Review

David WilsonJul 28, 2008

Limited schedule in Major League Soccer this weekend with the bog shock occurring in Dallas where FC Dallas hammered Beckham and the Galaxy 4-0 in front of a sell-out crowd.

FC Dallas 4, LA Galaxy 0

After going winless in MLS play since mid-June, FC Dallas finally decided enough was enough. Kenny Cooper scored twice in the first 17 minutes, Dominic Oduro scored his fifth goal of the season and Abe Thompson came off the bench to add another tally as FC Dallas blasted the Los Angeles Galaxy, 4-0, at Pizza Hut Park.

A smothering defensive effort held the Galaxy, the top-scoring team in MLS, to just two shots on goal.

The victory by FC Dallas (5-6-7) gave new coach Schellas Hyndman his first MLS win while the Galaxy fell to 6-7-5.

New York 1, San Jose 1

English import Darren Huckerby scored his first career Major League Soccer goal for  San Jose, but an earlier own goal allowed New York to draw. The tie extended the winless streaks of the two last-place teams.

San Jose (3-9-6), which dominated play for much of the day and outshot New York 13-8, has not won in eight consecutive matches. New York (5-6-7) hasn’t won in its last five tries.

Chicago 0, Kansas City 0

The Kansas City Wizards and Chicago Fire played to a scoreless tie in front of a sellout crowd of 10,385 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas. Kansas City (5-5-7) extended its unbeaten streak to six matches while Chicago (7-5-5) has not lost in five matches.

Columbus 2, Colorado 0

Crew forward Steven Lenhart opened the scoring in this game before being ejected in the 42nd minute when he clubbed Rapids defender Facundo Erpen in the head with his arm while jockeying for a corner kick. Columbus hung on and doubled their lead in the 75th minute through Jason Garey.

With the win Columbus moved to 9-5-4 while Colorado fell to 6-9-3.
