Rumor Mill: Could Manny Ramirez Be Sent a Mile High For Holliday?

Once again Manny Ramirez is just "being Manny" by telling ESPN he stated "If the Red Sox are a better team without Manny Ramirez, they should trade me; I will not object. I don't have any preferences. I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason. I don't care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be. My job is to play baseball" Its only a matter of time until the Boston front office decides to keep Manny or actually go through with a trade.

We have seen "Manny being Manny" more than usual this season from him giving a fan a high five after a catch, talking on his cell phone during a pitching change in the big green monster, making one of the worst outfielding plays of the season against the Angels, deciding his knee hurts in the first game of a very important series against the Yankees a few days ago, not even running out of the box after a line drive out, and the list can go on and on.

As of Monday its been brought up that Manny doesn't mind a trade, as long as both teams are happy with the deal. As of now, not many teams have interest in Ramirez, so where could he end up?

The Mets seemed like a possible spot for Ramirez, but not anymore. They dont have enough to offer to Boston and the farm teams dont have enough depth. Theo Epstein is looking for any offers proposed to him, but he wants to make sure its an even trade. If Boston doesn't get a power hitter or an all-star in return for Manny, and just get a lot of prospects, Red Sox nation will be furious.

Another possible team Manny could end up on is the Colorado Rockies. Who would Colorado give up?

The trade block has been up for a while and the Rockies are looking to shop outfielder Matt Holliday. Maybe a straight up one on one trade Ramirez for Holliday would make the most sense. A couple prospects could be thrown in as well. The only reason for prospects to be in the trade is because of the age difference between Ramirez (36) and Holliday (28).

As of now, Holliday is probably a better player who hits for power along with average and doesn't strikeout nearly as much as Ramirez. Holliday is also a better fielder, but might have a tough time adjusting to the Big Green Monster, unless Ellsbury move to left field if this trade went through.

Ramirez did state he wanted to go to a contenter and Colorado is currently 48-58, good enough for third place in the mediocre NL West, and would be 12.5 games behind Boston if they were in the same division. If this trade was proposed, Manny has the right to reject the trade because of his 10-5 option which means he is a 10 year veteran, five with the same team.

The Red Sox have dealt with Manny's behavior for quite some time now, but it's hard to argue with a player like him who constantly supplies your team with offense.

This deal makes a lot of sense, but its still highly unlikely Manny will be leaving Boston yet again.
