Manchester United Is in Good Shape for the New Season

Jeff HarbertJul 26, 2008

With less than a month remaining before the new season begins, Manchester United appear to be fully prepared for the new campaign. The Red Devils kick off the season at home against Newcastle United on Aug. 17, as they aim to win the Premier League for a third consecutive season.

Manchester United still has four pre-season games to go, and by the time the season rolls around, they will be more than ready for the challenges ahead.

After concluding their tour of South Africa, and winning the Vodacom Challenge in the process, Wayne Rooney is more than confident of what’s ahead for his side.

ā€œAfter our success last year, there will be high expectations but we’ve got a good enough squad and hopefully we can emulate last season,ā€ Rooney told The Sun.

ā€œOf course, winning trophies brings you confidence and we’re a confident team anyway. But it’s given us that bit extra and belief that we’re the best in the world.

ā€œHopefully we can prove that again this season.ā€

Well, if United are able to build on last season, then they’ll have no problems proving that they really are one of the best, if not the best, teams in the world.

With Ronaldo set to stay at Old Trafford, and Dimitar Berbatov potentially joining the Premiership Champions, it seems the Red Devils are in even better shape than they were last season.

Look back to just less than a year ago, and United had just signed Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, and Carlos Tevez. All four of these players made big contributions in their first season at Old Trafford, and with a year of experience under their belts, we can count on them having an even bigger impact this time around.

Even if Berbatov doesn’t end up making the move to Manchester, we can still expect a great season from the reigning European Champions. They are strong in every position, and they have a strong depth in the squad, meaning even if injuries do strike, they’ll be able to cope with it and carry on in their pursuit of silverware.

I, for one, am extremely excited for the new season and the countdown has certainly begun. Three weeks left until the opening day of the season! I can’t wait to see if Manchester United can build on their achievements from last season, and at the moment, I wouldn’t bet against it.
