What Grinds My Gears About Today's Sports World!
Recent events in sports and activities have, to steal from Peter Griffin here, "Grinded my Gears" over the past few days.
These events include the Little League all-star game in Beachwood that was cancelled, the peanut free zone at Safeco, and the recent increase of me watching kids consume unhealthy food and instead of exercise play video games all day/spoiled little brats who don't get their way.
First i will go at the little league all-star game in Beachwood, have we become a nation of people where we feel the need to put our kids in a plastic bubble so they don't have to face the dangers and hardships of the real world? The all-star game for little league was cancelled to protect kids feelings. Are *bleeping" kidding me? What's next high schools and NCAA stop naming all-americans? If you not get selected as an all-star it means you just were not good enough this year. So what to do? How about practice and try to get better? Nope, apparently if you cry hard enough they will cancel the all-star thing all together. So by your crying you are taking away from the kids who do try and who do get better. I am now 17 years old and have never been named all-league or been named an all-star for ice hockey or lacrosse but you know what instead of sitting there and moping about it I have pushed myself to get better and you know what? Despite never get any recognition like that I have gotten e-mails and phone calls from colleges about playing one of those sports at their school. You know why? When things got tough I kept going and all my friends, teammates, and coaches can vouch for me. I have never been the best but I have always tried my hardest and showed my dedication to the sport and it got me noticed. So kids stop blubbering if you don't get named and work your a** off until you do or be like me and just get noticed by colleges for playing your heart out every time you play and never back down. SO what is going to be youth of America going to be like when they get turned down for a job application because they were not "qualified enough" or rejected by a college for not doing "well enough in school"?

Next, Safeco field. Is it really necessary to have two games that are absolutely peanut free? I get it that 12 million people with peanut allergies are not able to go to the games because of the peanuts. But you know what, as Tim Parent wrote in his article here at bleacher report, "Shell Shock! The Peanut War Targets Safeco Field", "but at what point do we start accommodating the minority and at expense of the majority? " For example, at my school which is a small private school the 6th-12th graders share a cafeteria and a school store which sells candy, drinks, school supplies, school clothing, etc. There are approximately 500 kids. Now this school has existed since 1894 and for the first time ever two years ago there was one sixth grader with a peanut allergy so automatically we had to get rid of all peanut butter products in the cafeteria and in the school store. Why can't 500 kids enjoy peanut butter because one kid cannot? The problem is when you try to accommodate the needs of one person, you are going to have to do the same for each person otherwise they cry that you are favoring someone else over them. I don't care you can try to accommodate as many people as you want but in the end there will always be someone who is not pleased.
My next thing is about the increasingly spoiled brats who cry when they don't get what want and are becoming increaasingly overweight and lazy. It is a disturbing trend in our nation. Kids these days are becoming heavier and fatter than people older than them. For instance I have an 11 year old cousin who weighs just ten pounds less than me. I don't consider myself all that thin but at 150 pounds and being 5 foot 7 I am not fat either. My cousin on the other hand is 140 pounds and probably about 5 foot and has nearly 40 percent body fat according to my weight scale for comparison sake the same scale for me says 16 percent. Then my ten year old cousin is a little bit shorter but nearly just as fat at 120 pounds and 35 percent body fat. Both of my cousins constantly stuff themselves with snacks such as cookies and ice cream and other fattening snacks. Then whenever I try them to stop they start crying and complaining that they are hungry. Another disgusting trend is the shift of how to threaten a child. When I was 10/11 ago the ultimate punishment was I got sent to my room until I was allowed to come back down. For them the ultimate threat is no xbox 360 for a week, oooh scaryyy. I have been at the beach with my cousins for the past 10 days now and there has not been a single day where they have not played xbox for less than two hours. It is getting borderline absurd at how much they play where there has only been one sorta rainy day. I have considered just unplugging the xbox but I know that will create some massive drama and resentment towards me. Kids have become soft over these six years too apparently. The second I even try to grab them to talk to them to stop misbehaving they start screaming and crying. This amplification of using tears for kids to get their way may have made me pro-abortion and never want to have kids if they are going to be as lazy and self-centered as the kids that are out there today.
And That Ladies and Gentlemen are the things that "Grind My Gears" thank you for reading.
PS Thanks to Tim Parent for getting me started on this article and to Family Guy for the best way to describe my anger towards something
