My 2007 University of Georgia Season Preview

Georgia Bulldogs 2007 Season Preview

Sitting back and watching UGA’s 2006-2007 highlights I thought to myself "Can it really get that bad", Last year was supposed to be our rebuilding year wasn’t it? I mean, we lost to Kentucky and Vanderbilt (without Jay Cutler!) We really have things to look forward to!

We still have Kregg Lumpkin, a monstrous Thomas Brown, and two freshmen chomping at the bit for playing time, Knowshon Moreno and Caleb King. The offensive line is poised for a re-emergence, with young talent like freshman Trinton Sturdivant.

We have a stable quarterback depth chart, and not to mention Sean Bailey, Mohammed Massaquoi, and a fellow Tifton native in Israel Troupe.  Not to mention the new and improved Matt Stafford. Trimming down to just less than 230 pounds over the off-season, Staffordis the most experienced out of the three new SEC quarterbacks who were freshmen last year (Tebow, Mustain.) With this newly acquired understanding, The Dawgs’ season will depend on him.

Our special teams unit is really shaping up to be deadly with returning wide receiver Mikey Henderson.

The Dawgs’ schedule is as easy as eating pie, filled with ninjas and Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks. They start their season against an underrated Oklahoma State team led by former Georgia recruit Bobby Reid, wide-out Adarius Bowman, and Columbus native Dantrell Savage. The Cowboys beat Alabama in the Independence Bowl last year, and finished with the number seven-ranked offense.

Then the Dawgs venture into what I call the Southeastern college football version of the war in Iraq, war in Afghanistan, and the Bay of Pigs combined with a game against South Carolina. They continue their tour of the Carolinas September 15 against Western Carolina. However, the quagmire that is the next five games will determine the outcome of this combat.

The sticky situation starts on September 22 in Tuscaloosa. Even though Georgia hasn’t lost to Alabama in about five years, the Crimson Tide is re-energized thanks to their new coach and junior quarterback John Parker Wilson.

Most likely, the easiest battle in the series will occur on September 29, when Ole Miss comes to town. No time to celebrate, the week after that, the Dawgs travel to Rocky Top to face the Number 15-ranked Volunteers. Following that conflict, our brave soldiers go through Vanderbilt to find trouble on the horizons.

Ahh…the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, usually the time of the year when Georgia fans’ SEC title hopes go down the drain. This is usually the time of year when remotes go flying through many Georgians’ living rooms.  However, this year, there’s nowhere to look but up, we have the bye week advantage, and an inexperienced Florida defense makes an upset possible.

After one last major encounter against Auburn between the hedges, the season is all over but the shoutin’.

If our troop’s battle record is still unscathed, and the regiment is casualty-free, we should be sitting pretty and facing LSU in the SEC Championship. The best case scenario for this season would be to face West Virginia or Rutgers in the Sugar Bowl (I’m pulling for Rutgers, I want no parts of the Mountaineers, they made us believers two years ago.) The worst case scenario would be a winless season, duh.

But this is what I think will happen.

Sept. 1   – Oklahoma State – Close Win

Sept. 8   – South Carolina – Win

Sept. 15 – Western Carolina – Win

Sept. 22 – Alabama – Win

Sept. 29 – Mississippi –Win

Oct. 6    – Tennessee – Close Loss or Blowout

Oct. 13  – Vanderbilt – Win

Oct. 27  – Florida – Okay, I said that an upset was possible, but it most likely won’t happen. Loss.

Nov. 3   – Troy – Win

Nov. 10 – Auburn – Win

Nov. 17 – Kentucky – Win

Nov. 24 – Georgia Tech – Win

Final Record 10-2

SEC Record 6-2

Bowl Game: Outback Bowl vs. Penn State/Wisconsin – Win
