Mixed Messages From Manchester United Players To Ronaldo

Salaar ShamsiJul 26, 2008

Well, one thing is for sure, no player wants to play at an 'uncertain' club which is hampered by controversies and sagas.

In the long running "Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid" transfer saga which has survived due to alot of speculation, Ronaldo's teammates at Old Trafford haven't been too impressed with his attitude.

There were earlier reports that several United players bombarded Ronaldo with text messages to convince him to stay at the Theatre of Dreams.

The chorus was apparently led by Rio Ferdinand who was even considering joining Ronaldo on the latter's 'private' vacation to keep him 'where he belongs' (atleast for the next four years)

In the midst of all this controversy I decided to look at what various Manchester United players thought of the Ronaldo saga and I've noticed mixed messages with the majority, of course, urging him to stay away from Real Madrid.

Here I've lined up quotes from different United players which support my point.

Paul Scholes :

"If other players fancy a move and a bit of money, then good luck to them."

"Everywhere is a step down from here on."

Ā Rio Ferdinand :

"It's simple for me and the rest of the lads , we hope Ronnie stays."

"There won't be any problems between him (Ronaldo) and the rest of the squad, He is a great guy."

Wayne Rooney :

"Cristiano is unbelievable, I'm pretty sure he'll stay."

Carlos Tevez :

"I can understand Cristiano Ronaldo, every player wants to play for Real Madrid, On the other hand, I also believe every footballer would want to play for Manchester United but if he thinks otherwise then I think we have to respect that."

Nani :

"He's been a great help for me, he should stay and I think he will but if he doesn't then I'm ready to take my chance."Ā

Well, some say there's no question others believe in respecting his choice, either way it shows Manchester United isn't totally United over the Ronaldo saga.
