WWE SmackDown! Rebound: Darkness Falls Upon The Rated R Superstar

Ron JohnsonJul 25, 2008

Tonight, I said that this would be the biggest SmackDown! ever! At the end of the show, I was proved not to be a liar! For everyone that wanted a reason to watch the WWE again, for the first ever, General Manager Vickie Guerrero answered your prayers. Here now is the SmackDown! Rebound!

The show opened with JR and Mick informing us that Vickie Guerrero was not in the building...yet. But while we await the scorned bride, MVP decided to hold a special VIP Lounge with special guest Jeff Hardy. Both men start off one-upping each other about the main event. MVP continues to push Hardy's buttons until he shoves him out of the ring. MVP takes the cowards way out and walks away from the fight.

First Bout: Shelton Benjamin defeats Jimmy Wang Yang

Shelton shows his technical side followed by a big boot. He then locks in an armbar followed by some punches in the corner. But Yang recovers and hits the hurracanrana. In the corner, after a few counters from both men, Shelton finally lands the Paydirt to pick up his first win as United States Champion.

In the back, Edge is patiently waiting for the arrival of his wife. Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder pop in to show off their new tag team titles and tell Edge that his personal business is just that...personal.

Second Bout: Festus defeats Cur t Hawkins

As the bell rings, Festus uncorks and takes the fight to Hawkins. As Hawkins tries to fight back, Festus sends him to the outside. After Ryder gets dropped on the outside, Festus delivers the Biscuits Slam to pick up the win. After the bell, the champs take out Jesse and drop Festus with a Edgeucator.

Back on SmackDown!, Edge is talking to Alicia Fox about tonight, but he doesn't know that Bam Neely is eavesdropping on their little conversation.

Third Bout: Vladimir Kozlov defeats Stevie Richards

Kozlov tries to intimidate the ECW Original, but Richards has the advantage until a belly to belly shifts control to Kozlov. Following a boot to the heart, Kozlov has a Sambo Armbar applied. Richards recovers and lands some kicks to regain control. As Richards tries to land the Stevie-T, Kozlov nails the Battering Ram to pick up the win. Following the bell, Kozlov demands that he has more and better competition.

Simple advice, Vlad: Be careful what you wish for.

Main Event: The Great Khali wins the BOTS Battle Royal

As the match begins, MVP bolts out of the ring as Kennedy and Hardy focus on Khali. On the other side of the ring, Big Show delivers a Sidewalk Slam on Umaga. After a series of headbutts between Khali and Show, Umaga recovers and delivers some superkicks on both big men.

Back on SD!, Hardy lands the Whisper in the Wind on Umaga. Big Show lands some serious shots on Khali followed by Umaga. MVP is trying to eliminate Hardy while Big show lands a chop on Kennedy. The World's Largest Athlete takes on both Umaga and Khali as Hardy eliminates MVP. Show dukes it out with Umaga, but after a shoulder block, Big Show clotheslines the Samoan Bulldozer over the top rope.

As Big Show celebrates, Khali recovers and drops him with a quick punch. Khali goes for the chokeslam, but Show counters into a chokeslam. Umaga sprints back into the ring and delivers the Samoan Spike on Big Show. Jeff Hardy jumps off the ropes, but Big Show catches him only to get a hurracanrana over the top rope. This leaves Khali and Jeff Hardy.

As Hardy nails the Swanton Bomb, Khali shakes it off and drops him with the Khali Chop. Khali then throws him over to earn the shot at Triple H at Summerslam for the gold. Speaking of The Game, the WWE Champion comes down and confronts his next opponent. But Ranjin Singh prevents the big man from fighting, and Khali leaves the ring as Triple H continues to call out the Punjabi Giant.

Back on SmackDown!, fans find out that the newest WWE Superstar, R-Truth, is coming to SmackDown! soon.

Fifth Bout: Michelle McCool defeats Maryse

Maryse gets a quick hair pull on McCool, but McCool returns the favor followed by a series of dropkicks. On the outside, Maryse whips Michelle into the apron to focus on her midsection. Back on the inside, Maryse thinks she has control, but a quick leg grab allows Michelle to land the McCool Ankle Lock to get the win over Maryse. The Divas Champion gets her first win as champion over a tough opponent in Maryse.

Back on SD!, we see the RAW Rewind followed by two announcements: The first one is that Shane McMahon will be on RAW this Monday. And the second is the official announcement that Triple H will defend the WWE Championship at Summerslam against The Great Khali. In the back, Vickie has finally arrive with her nephew Chavo. Bam rushes in to make sure that Vickie knows Edge's real intentions.

Back on the show, Bam informs Edge that Vickie is here, but Edge says he has to apologize to her in public.

Sixth Bout: Brian Kendrick defeats Shannon Moore

Kendrick lands a cheap shot to gain control. Following a body slam, Brian misses a knee drop, which allows Shannon to land a leg drop. But thanks to Ezekial, Kendrick lands "The Kendrick" (formerly Sliced Bread Two) to pick up the win. In the process, Kendrick makes it clear that everyone is seeing the future of the business.

In the back, Bam relays the message to Vickie (albeit twisted) and makes it clear that "Edge wants to do it in public."

Quick Promotion Note: Whether you love wrestling or not, tune in to Saturday Night's Main Event next Saturday as Jenny McCarthy squares off against autism. Tune in because on this night, it won't be just about wrestling. It's about something much bigger than that.

Conclusion: Edge faces The Darkness...Alone.

Edge makes his way to the ring to give his public apology to his wife. He requests the presence of his wife, who shows up with Chavo and Bam. As Vickie gingerly gets into the ring, Chavo and Bam honor her wishes and leave the ring. Edge gets down on one knee and tries to beg and plead for forgiveness. He then goes on to blame Alicia Fox for everything that has happened. Wonder if she was watching then.

Vickie starts to show forgiveness for Edge, but just when he thought that he was off the hook, she informs him that she did something he might not like: She reinstated The Undertaker! But it gets worse for the Rated R Superstar. As he tries to dodge a scornful Deadman, she lets him know that she has already named an opponent for The Deadman at Summerslam.

When asked who his opponent would be, she responds with a smile: "You." Edge again tries to cover his tracks, but Vickie has one last wedding gift for her husband: "Your match will be...HELL IN A CELL! " The show ends with Vickie laughing maniacally and Edge on the ground hanging his head in shame.

So just to recap: Triple H has his next opponent, MVP has a war with Jeff Hardy on the horizon and Edge will see that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned...and he is officially a Dead Man Walking!

See ya Monday for a momentum shifting RAW!
