Rankings/List

It's been about one month since the last manager power rankings, and a bunch has changed (last month's power rankings are in parenthesis).

1. Mike Scioscia (LAA/1) - his team is the best in baseball and one of the few that has a winning record on the road.

2. Ned Yost (MIL/4) - his team has gone from not a contender to the heels of the first place Cubs.

3. Joe Maddon (TB/7) - can his team bounce back from a recent slump combined with the surging Yankees?

4. Ozzie Guillen (CWS/11) - it seems like every time he goes insane, his team responds (Quentin's performance proves).

5. Tony La Russa (STL/3) - can the redbirds compete with the surging Brewers and cooling Cubs?

6. Lou Piniella (CHC/2) - his team is cooling down, but Soriano's return should boost the Cubs.

7. Joe Girardi (NYY/16) - his team is surging, winning six in a row, and ten in a row at home.

8. Jerry Manuel (NYM/28) - the Mets have surged from dead to the best in the NL East.

9. Terry Francona (Bos/9) - following an embarrassing sweep by Los Angeles, his team roared back against Seattle.

10. Charlie Manuel (Phi/10) - his team roared back in an impressive win against the Mets, but will need to figure out how to beat them (4-8) if they want to win the NL East.

11. Fredi Gonzalez (Fla/8) - the Marlins are still a competitor in the NL East, but can their young talent keep up with the Phillies and Mets?

12. Ron Gardenhire (Min/4) - the Twins have been slumping and their young talent is slipping - is Liriano going to be called up soon?

13. Bob Geren (Oak/6) - his team is slumping, losing 3 out of 10, and will have to start winning before the Angels COMPLETELY run away (it may be too late).

14. Jim Leyland (Det/17) - Leyland has dragged his team out from dead last to serious playoff contenders (only 5.5 games back).

15. Ron Washington (Tex/13) - great offense plus terrible pitching plus Angels' success means the Rangers only have a 4.8 percent chance of making the playoffs.

16. Bob Melvin (Ari/15) - his team is still in first, but it's sad that ESPN announcers still have to say that the Diamondbacks have to watch out for the Rockies.

17. Dusty Baker (Cin/23) - his team has a .608 winning percentage since Jun 27, but it's not enough to compete in the tough NL Central.

18. Cito Gaston (Tor/27) - his team has a .571 winning percentage since Jun 27 and Rios getting his power back should propel this team even more.

19. Joe Torre (LAD/21) - his team has a .567 winning percentage since Jun 27 and will compete with the Diamondbacks until September.

20. Bobby Cox (Atl/14) - his team has gone from two games under .500 (when the NL East was up for grabs) to five games under .500 with a .429 winning percentage since Jun 27.

21. Dave Trembley
