Fantasy Football: I Mock You With Round One of the Blogger Mock

Lee JohnsonJul 22, 2008

Yes, I’ll take the No. 7 pick please…can you add a little stress to the side?  Stress in a mock draft?  Yes, it can be stressful.  Even in a league that will never take a fantasy snap, I feel I must destroy my peers.

It’s the second year of the Hazean Fantasy Bloggers Mock Draft.  I have to say, last year I had fun doing this and met some people that I still cyber talk to almost every day.  I’m sure that is more of a positive for me than them, but I digress.

In the second annual Hazean Mock Draft, I was handed the No. 7 pick.  That was cool, I guess, since last year I had the No. 1 and that made for a pretty predictable round one.  The No. 7 is a tough spot though.

At this point there are six RBs and a Tom Brady off the board.  There is a cluster of talent with players that don’t really separate themselves from others at that point.

I bet you are just on the edge of your seat right now, aren’t you?  Wanna see how the first round is rolling out?  Here is a little summary; go to the Hazean to see the full commentary…

1. Curveballs 4 Jesus select LaDainian Tomlinson

"

There really isn’t much to say about LT that people don’t already know.  The guy is a beast, and he is showing no signs of stopping.  No one else on my draft board is even close this year…

"

2. Sean McCall selects Adrian Peterson

"

I flip-flopped several times between Peterson and Westbrook but given they have both had knee injuries, I believe Peterson’s young legs are more likely to deliver consistent points through the most important weeks of the fantasy season (week 14:  MIN @ DET vs. PHI @ NYG and week 15: MIN @ ARI vs. CLE @ PHI on MNF)…

"

3. Football Burrito selects Joseph Addai

"

Brian Westbrook would be a slam dunk in a PPR league (if he didn’t go No. 2 in that format). Steven Jackson might be a good choice, but St. Louis’s offense has so many question marks. I would rather grab Addai, who in his third season could finally become the back that Edge was in his prime…

"

4. Pancake Blocks/RotoWorld select Steven Jackson

"

I don’t love how much Scott Linehan likes to throw in the red zone, but there should be more scoring opportunities for the team this season if Orlando Pace can stay healthy.  I think Jackson is the safest pick after LT2

"

5.  West Coast Nonsense selects Brian Westbrook

"

Unless last year’s fall-down-at-the-goal-line tragedy becomes a usual thing, Westbrook will be a top performer, and he is a steal this late in the first round…

"

6.  Bruno Boys select Tom Brady

"

When Steven Jackson and Brian Westbrook flew off the board at No. 4 and No. 5, the Bruno Boys decided go with Brady over the likes of Frank Gore, Randy Moss and Clinton Portis. In a league that awards six points for a passing touchdown, Brady is as sure as they come in the middle of the first round…

"

7.  The Hazean selects Marion Barber

"

Yes, the ‘Boys drafted a running back in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. But that says nothing about the confidence the coaching staff has that Marion Barber can be the guy to shoulder the load in Dallas this season…

"

8.  Football Jabber selects Frank Gore

"

Putting hope on Frank Gore looking more like a Marshall Faulk in a Mike Martz offense than a Kevin Jones, Football Jabber selects Frank Gore…as I know that those who pick behind me will let Peyton Manning fall to me in the second round, because it’s just the right thing to do…

"

9.  Fantasy Football Fools select Clinton Portis

"

The No. 9 hole doesn’t get much better than No. 8. I feel like reaching for several players here, but hey, you have to bite the hype machines in the first round, don’t you…?

"

10.  The Fantasy Football Geek Blog selects Marshawn Lynch

"

Lynch and Larry Johnson are easily the two best running backs remaining, and it’s a tough call as to which has a better shot at having a dominant season. As long as Lynch can stay out of Goodell’s doghouse, he seems likely to get significantly more touches this season than LJ will…

"

11.  Fantasy Football Goat selects Larry Johnson

"

I was all over Marshawn until Matt and Brandon (FF Geeks) wisely picked him (props). Oh well there’s always plan B…

"

12.  Fantasy Football Librarian selects Randy Moss

"

Since I don’t like the value of really any of the RBs available at this point in the draft, with the 1.12, pick I will select Randy Moss and with the 2.01 pick I’ll take Reggie Wayne. I have complete faith that both of these receivers will play this season at an elite level; I can’t say the same for my running back options.
