A Place for the Fans of Fighting In Hockey !

Rob WebbJul 22, 2008

If I were to tell you that there is a website out there that is all about hockey fights would you believe me? Well there is, and it’s great.

Everyone can easily look up player’s stats, such as goals, points, penalty minutes, etc. But where do you find players fighting stats? It’s easy. Just go to www.hockeyfights.com and you will find everything you need to know.

On the site, you can watch every televised fight from the NHL, then from there you can vote on who won the fight. It also has information about how many fights a player has been in and who their opponents have been.

David Singer is the genius behind this site and I had the chance to talk to him about his site and hockey fights in general over the internet.

I’ve personally known about the website for about 2 years now, but it has been up for a while.

ā€œI started a personal site in 1995. I had a hockey part of it, and I kept working on it. Eventually it needed its own site, and by 1999 I was working on hockeyfights.com.ā€ says David.

All of us hockey fight fans, appreciate everything that David has done with the site, but people might not expect it to be so much work. When I asked him how much time he puts into the site daily weather it be fixing it, making it better, or even just viewing it, David had this to say.

ā€œHonestly, I have no idea. It's probably on purpose too, if I knew how much time I put into this, I'd probably have to try and cut back. Time-wise it'd be like having a second full-time job, easy.ā€

The site is not just strictly about hockey fights either. All us hockey fight fans are obviously big hockey fans too. There is a great message forum on HF.com that allows you to talk and discuss about everything from the obvious hockey and hockey fights, to other sports, to entertainment, and everything in between. There is even a forum there for trading stuff (Such as Hockey DVD’s, Sports Cards, Sports Memorabilia, etc.). A great trader on the site is Tony Edelsward (known as GIANTSFAN on HF.com) and he says…

ā€œIt is pretty easy to trade with guys on here. I'd say that people are 99% honest with what type of quality they are getting. I've traded with guys all around the world from Canada to Russia. I've traded DVD’s, & hockey memorabilia before.ā€

I would personally say that the members on this site are like a big family. 98% of the users on HF.com are loyal to each other. They may argue and fight over certain topics, but I can safely say, for the most part everyone respects each other there in the long run.

I asked a popular user of HF.com, Joe McGinnis (known as BStreetBullies) what he thinks of the site.

ā€œHonestly, I love the site. I think HF.com is a solid site all around. I think it is a very legit site when it comes to facts and fight cards, and the site also has a very solid collection of core members who really know their stuff, from the bitter old guys who preach to us younger guys about how the sport was in its golden era, to the younger guys who want to learn about the past, and want to catch every recent fight.ā€ Joe told me.

Since the site is based on hockey fights. I had to ask Dave a couple of quick questions about his personal favorites.

Rob Webb: What is your all time favorite NHL fight?

Dave Singer: It'd be hard to make a top 10 list, let alone pick one fight, but since I have to: Bob Probert vs Marty McSorley Feb 04, 1994. (watch the fight: http://www.hockeyfights.com/fights/18930)

Rob Webb: Who is your favorite all time enforcer? And who is your favorite now?

Dave Singer: It's hard not to go with a guy like Probert, who didn't just fight, but had some skills too. It's a little different now because of the site, and the interaction I have with a lot of players. I'm a fan of a lot of guys, but it's from a different perspective. And yes, I completely avoided a real answer so I don't get crap over email from them J

Rob Webb: Can you give me your prediction for a fight of the year candidate next year?

Dave Singer: My crystal ball says it'll probably involve Riley Cote. If Brad May and Krys Barch ever meet on the ice again, that's got a chance too.

From reading my previous articles you probably know that I’m a big fan of Wade Belak. So I had to ask Dave one last question.

Rob Webb: What are your thoughts on Wade Belak?

Dave Singer: I think he's a solid tough guy. He had a bit of a down time after Colton Orr broke his nose, but seems to have recovered well from that. I hope he gets some solid time in Florida.

Dave I hope for the same thing for Belak. And I want to thank you, Joe and Tony for answering some questions and if you haven’t checked out hockeyfights.com by now, you best get to it!
