Last night was the most disappointing night in MMA history.
I thought at least one of the cards would turn out to be good, but both were quite disappointing. If it weren't for a few good fights on both cards I would have rather not watched either of them.
I started the night with the stroke of genius of setting up another television in the living room, so I could keep up with both events. It turned out to be just a quick glancing back and forth to try and stay awake.
Anderson Silva, Fedor Emilianenko, and Cain Velasquez showed up to fight that night...It would have been nice if their opponent would have at least made an effort.
Don't get me wrong I do love to see a good knockout, but I am not much into quick one-sided fights. I think fights that are toward the top of the card that end so quickly are very disappointing.
Kevin Burns and Anthony Johnson had a really good back and forth type of battle going, but it had to end on an accidental eye gouge. It was unfortunate to see those two fighting so hard to have it end like that.
Frankie Edgar and Hermes Franca went the way I figured it would...not quite so one sided, but I did see it taking place on the ground.
And CB taking out JT was a decent fight, but none of the fights mentioned were really worth it being called a really good card. Maybe a decent card...maybe.
Vitor Belfort and Terry Martin had one of the most boring fights to end in a knockout. Neither fighter looked very good...except for the end of the fight when Vitor knocked Terry out.
Josh Barnett knocking out Pedro Rizzo was definitely a huge shock to me. I could have seen Barnett winning, by submission or decision. If you would have told me that he would knock Rizzo out before it happened I would have laughed at you. Barnett can hold his own on his feet, but he really isn't a knock out puncher. This one really shocked me.
The most intriguing fight of the night was Andrei Arlovski versus Ben Rothwell. Not even because it was a really good fight, but more like when Andrei fought Cabbage, and everyone watched wondering how long it would take him to get the knockout.
Between the fights that looked like an IFL card, and the uneasy feeling of anxiety waiting for Megadeath to finish their set, I was really unhappy with both cards last night.

I won't argue that the ufc wasn't that great of a card, but I don't see how you can critisize Anderson and Fedor for knocking out their opponents quickly. They are amazing fighters, and last night showcased them making 2 atleast decent fighters look like they were picked up off the street to fight them. I definitely prefer a quick knock-out over 3 boring rounds like the franca/edgar fight. The eye poke was really unfortunate, and I don't get it. if a fighter gets kneed in the head while he's down and can't continue after 5 minutes then he wins by DQ, but if you stick your finger in someones eye and he can't continue you win?? Someone needs to rethink that one through

It wasn't a criticism of Silva or Fedor...It was simply putting it that the fights weren't all that great since it really wasn't a fight, but more like a session of them hitting a heavy bag. The eye poke has always been a big deal on the UFC. Couture lost his title due to an eye poke to Vitor Belfort. It is pretty ridicuous. I was simply putting it that neither fight card was that impressive. Andrei Arlovski had the best fight of the night, it would have been great if Ben Rothwell would have participated in it though.

yea I hear what you're saying, tim sylvia hasn't looked good for a long time but irvin has looked pretty good so i did expect that to be a little closer. yea I saw the couture one not that long ago, that's just stupid. I mean a no-contest makes the most sense, especially how that was at the very beginning of the fight. you'd think they would've done something about it after that fight...

I really don't see how that Fedor, Silva fight proved anything, Tim Silvia has always been a big clumsey goof, look at his last fights in the UFC, they sure weren't main event material to me. Fedor may be a great fighter, but he hasn't proven it to me, the bout with Silvia proves nothing. Wait till Brock Lesnar, gets some practical octagon experience, that is a match, I'd pay to see. He had no problem manhandling Frank Mir, but his lack of experience, beat him. Anderson Silva, is still number one to me, he's taken on and beat all comers so far.

Oh dear. Another Lesnar fan. Do you like Kimbo as well?

Lesnar is a joke, and he will always be a joke. He isn't going to get the right training, he will depend on his ability to power out of an armbar as his submission defense, and he will wash up as fast as he came on.

I agree, overall, both cards turned out to be pretty dull. But really, even the most put together fight cards (like Affliction: Banned) all come down to the actual fights. Hell, Fedor vs. Couture could be the most watched PPV ever, if it comes to pass. The actual fight however, could last only 36 seconds as well.

The UFC card was solid, though not nearly as exciting as most had hoped.
The Affliction card was anything but a letdown!

As for Affliction itself it was the fighters that were the letdown. There wasn't no where near as much excitement, that should have been with the names they had.

The biggest let down for me in the Affliction card was the production itself. The fights overall were good, but its really up to the individual viewer and your more then entitled to your opinion

We are not talk about there shirt which are nice , but to say the fights were not a let down only means you have a very low stander for fights. Both cards where weak with there own moments, and neither where were paying for which give the UCF the upper hand. Plus with Megadeath do there first show in 20 years taking for ever Affliction was a let down. Don't say it was good just could Dana's a douche bag. If Affliction is the new stander then the stander has been drop off a skyscraper.

Whether you are cynical or a stick in the mud I don't know, but the fights were a big hit at my house. Most dyed in the wool MMA fans know to expect the unexpected and will take the quick endings with the drawn out "boring" bouts just to be able to see their favorite fighters perform. Sorry you were bummed, baseball has rain-outs, football plays rain or blizzard--maybe you should choose a different sport.

Your article is poop.
I cannot comment any more because It's not worth my time.
You should find a different gig too, 'bro'.Please don't write any more about MMA.
I'm serious.
(What possessed me to click on this yahoo link, I dunno).
Uhm, I wonder if you get payed for writing these articles...
Are you...perhaps...a BOXING FAN???
Because aside from a few fights, the AFFliction card was FANTASTIC.
The UFC was at least halfway decent.
Please specify -if at all possible- WHAT MMA CARD would satisfy your sophisticated tastes, Sir?

If you don't like the articles I write, don't read them...simple as that. I am not begging anyone to write I am voicing my opinion...Like I said earlier it wasn't exactly the fight card it was the lack of excitement on both ends. I was on the fence about Megadeath, because I figured if I went to see Megadeath and a fight broke out I would be pleased, but that is only a one way street apparently.

I'm not with you, that is being " the most disappointing night in MMA history." That's a little far fetched. Could have been better? Sure. Affliction lost 2 fighters off their card, just a few weeks into the event. UFC tried to pull an elephant out their shorts by trying to put on a show, the same night as Affliction. UFC only had 3-4 "heard of" fighters on their card. It was a joke. Good news is, Affliction will get better and contract bigger name fighters and hopefully give the UFC a run for their money. I just hope Affliction doesn't sell out.

Get your head examined - on Saturday you had 2 best fighters in the planet doing what they do best - outclass everyone else, period.

Now I know all of you work at Affliction. If this was not Affliction but a UFC card everyone would be ripping the for a poor showing. Yes they had a couple of decent, but that does not make the card Great or above par and Megadeath or just stupid this is MMA not the WWE. And any one who really follow MMA would have know most of the fighters on UFC's card. And UFC has been the only really ones look for new talent to grow the sport and now just cashing in on old washed up fighter. No Affliction was a poor showing and not worth $39.95 to me. I would have not have been happy to pay for the UFC card either, but then i didn't have to.

I don't work for any fight organization. I am just happy to see some big name fighters getting together to do battle. Could have the show been more evenly matched? Yes. It is Afflictions first show? Yes. Will it get better? Yes. Was it better than the UFC fight card? Yes, this particular one. I like UFC, don't get me wrong but I don't agree with Dana's politics, the way he treats his fighters and other fighters and I think it is sad they have to resort to quickly putting on a UFC show "on the fly" to steal thunder away from another organization. Their are reasons why fighters are leaving the UFC and their are reasons why big name fighters won't sign with the UFC.
Look at the Couture fiasco. Why would anybody want to be a heavyweight in the UFC? Who would want to fight for an interm heavy weight champion of the world? Nobody. They need to let it go. For everybody's sake.

I think Affliction's dark production style was what made the card lackluster. With the UFC's production style and announce team I believe that same card would have been much more exciting.
As for UFC fight night, it was what is was, fights for free on Spike TV. I didn't think they were all that bad, or all that good, but the main events on both shows were good for me.
