WWE Friday Night Smackdown Review: Friday May 14th

Kingston vs Christian for the IC Title

This match, put quite simply, was an exhibition of technical brilliance.

It reminded me of some classic Benoit-Angle matches.

This match was fast paced and included counter after counter, move after move and pure emotion, as these two phenomenal athletes left it all in the ring.

The crowd was into the match from start to finish.

I'm so glad WWE did not ruin it by having the ref stop the match because of the blood in Christians mouth.

All that is left for me to say is, congratulations to Christian and Kofi.

Rating: No dispute here 5/5

McIntyre re-instated as IC Champ

I have to say, this segment caught me off guard and it was only after I thought about it, that I realised how much sense it made.

We all know that Drew is supposed to be a heel, but recently he has lost most of, if not all of, his ability to draw heel heat. Hence, his attacks on Hardy began.

However, this was one of the smartest moves made by WWE — in restored Drew's heat, he was boo'ed out of the building and it set up a great match at Over the Limit.

Rating: 2.5/5

Shad vs Local Jobber

Total squash.

Rating: 0.5/5

JTG and MVP vs The Dudebusters

Looks like MVP's push has stalled again if he is being forced into another pointless tag team.

Nobody expected a different result with this match. I'm not even sure if everybody knew who the Dudebusters were!

Rating: 2.5/5

Swagger's Trophy Collection

First of all, if Swagger really owns all these, he really is one talented man.

This was a fantastic segment. I found it really entertaining. There were some good comedy moments in this segment, which is a rare thing in today's era of WWE.

Once again, this feud reminds me of the Big Show/Angle feud from 2000.

Swagger drew some good heel heat and Big Show interrupted just as it was becoming boring to listen to Swagger.

Rating: 5/5

Phoeinix vs Laycool for the Womens Title

Seeing as Beth was injured, I will forgive the length of this match and not factor it into the rating.

There was some good spots in this match — highlighted by Beth's double samoan drop.

The crowd was really into the match probably more than any women's match since the Trish Stratus day's.

Rating: 3/3

Kane vs Chavo

Another total squash and a pointless way of getting these two on tv.

I really worry for these two — it looks like this will be what they will do for the rest of there careers — jobbing and being squashed while getting the odd win here and there.

Rating: 1/5

Mysterio vs Punk

This was another fantastic match. Quick paced, some great action and a nice little preview of Over the Limit.

If this match is anything to go buy, Over the Limit is worth buying just to see their PPV match.

The finish was a nice little twist on the masked man angle. A great ending to Smackdown despite the DQ finish.

Rating: 5/5

Final Thoughts

Tonights Smackdown was a very good show.

There were three stand out segments, two of which were phenomenal matches.

I cannot decide which match was better(Kofi/Christian or Punk/Rey) so I'll let all of you decide that in the comments section!

Well done to the Smackdown Creative Team for making Smackdown so interesting. A truly great show.

Final Rating: 3.5/5
