Battle of the UFC Blogs: Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley's War of Words Rages On

In anticipation for their upcoming matchup at UFC 113 on May 8th, welterweight contenders Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley each made blog posts posted to UFC.com . 

While neither fighter has ever shied away from some verbal sparring, the animosity between the two seems especially evident this time around.

Excerpts from both Koscheck and Daley’s posts are below.

Koscheck:  ”In the last few weeks, people have been telling me that Daley has been talking a lot of trash about me, but to be honest, I have not even heard too much of what he’s talking about because I don’t get on the internet and I don’t pay very much attention to that stuff. I’ve had guys talk trash all the time and it’s nothing new to me.”

Daley: “I can talk some crap when I want to, but when I came into the UFC I wanted the results to speak for themselves. I came in with the attitude of fighting whoever they wanted me to, never saying no to any opponent, and just go out there, knock people out, and move on to the next guy.”

Koscheck: ”I think he’s the type of fighter that needs to talk because he’s a one-dimensional fighter, and nobody really even knows who Paul Daley is. So he’s got to build himself up, and that’s pretty much what he’s been doing. We’ll let him keep building himself and keep building me by running his mouth; that’s fine, because when it comes down to it, I fought the best of the best. I fought the champion; I fought everybody in our division.”

Daley: ”He says I am trying to raise my name in the sport by fighting him? He called me out; I could care less about him. I’ve been fighting top guys for years, in MMA and kickboxing. I was fighting top guys while you were doing your homework in college, hanging out with nerds, and wrestling.”

Koscheck: “The way I see it, Paul Daley is just a guy that just likes to talk trash and he’s a one-dimensional fighter. Those guys are from the old days–like the one-dimensional wrestler or the one-dimensional striker.

"Those days are over, and you’ve got to become a complete mixed martial artist. But I was at that point once. I was a one-dimensional wrestler, and coming from The Ultimate Fighter days, if you look at the evolution of Josh Koscheck, I’ve changed and I’m excited about the transition I made and the sacrifices I made to get here.

"I can submit guys, I can knock guys out, I can head kick guys, and I’m not gonna have a problem standing toe-to-toe with Paul Daley. He’s not gonna hit me with anything I haven’t been hit with.”

Daley:  ”He’s not that great a wrestler. His takedowns have been stuffed by almost every opponent he’s faced. He can’t kickbox for crap, not if his life depended on it. If he tries to stand with me for even a second, I fear for his well-being.

“His ground and pound is crap. If he grounded and pounded me in my sleep he’d barely have enough power in his punches to wake me up.  His subs are based on his strength; the technique is almost non-existent. He’s a good athlete and is strong, but I am so much stronger. I’m a different species than him. His subs just won’t work on me. 

“Knock me out? Too funny. People with glass chins shouldn’t throw stones. I don’t have a BJJ black belt, but I am sure I hit a little harder than Paulo Thiago, who almost decapitated Kos like a geek in a horror film. 

"Thiago is a tough dude and a top contender I would love to fight, but the black and white of it is he’d never scored a knockout before he sparked Kos out and he’s not scored one since.

"It’s a trivia question: ‘For 10 points: Name that clown with the stupid hair who is the only guy to ever get KTFO by Paulo Thiago?’”
