Is Jack Rodwell a Target for Arsenal?

Jamrock RoverApr 28, 2010

If the reports in various media outlets are to be believed, Arsenal is apparently interested in Everton's Jack Rodwell.

He certainly fits the profile of a typical Arsenal signing, but I sincerely doubt it, as I think he would cost too much for a player of his age and limited experience. We have plenty of inexperience and promise, but I'm sure the boss knows we need a few players who are in their prime, have experience, and have reached their potential.

Any Arsenal fan I know or have spoken to online is of the same opinion that our younger players need to be backed up by some seasoned winning professionals, and it has to be done this summer before Arsene's youth project crumbles from the weight of expectation.

Other Arsenal news is very thin on the ground yet again as another season draws to a close, and third place is only ours to lose if we fall apart even more than we have already.

Even at that, it would mean that the Spuds would have to win their last three games and we would have to lose our last two and that's very doubtful too. I think they will win at home to Bolton and away to Burnley, but the really big game for them is their trip to Man City next week. It's a huge game in the race for fourth place, and it will be interesting to see how City handle it.

With a tough home game against Villa this Saturday, finishing fourth will be fully deserved. However, it will be interesting to see if they can set their stall out to win both of these games, or if they will revert to the negative tactics that they have used in their games against Arsenal and "Manure."

No matter which way I work it out, I can't see Liverpool finishing fourth. This might be very bad news for "Manure" because I can't see them giving Chelsea too much trouble next Sunday, and that's "Manure's" last hope in the league this season.

If I had to put money on it at this stage, I would say that the Spuds will get that fourth place, which would be very interesting as it would put three London clubs in the Champions league next season, if they can make their way through the qualifying round.

Having finished with the Arsenal news, it's time to talk about the Champions League and how poor Lyon were against Bayern last night. I fancied Bayern to get through as I thought they would score away from home, and they obliged with a 3-0 win and Olic managed to score a perfect hat trick.

It puts Olic on seven goals in this season's competition and he is only one behind Messi now. Obviously some fans are suddenly asking why Arsenal isn't interested in him, but in my opinion he isn't good enough to play for us if we are to reach the level that the team promises at the moment.

The really big game is tonight as Inter heads to Barcelona with a 3-1 lead from the first leg, and it promises to be a great game as last week's game was. I am in two minds when it comes to making a prediction for this game as it could go either way, but I'm going to go with Barcelona as I want Arsenal to have lost to the eventual winners.

With the offseason approaching at a very fast pace, I am on the look out for a good online fantasy World Cup game, and if anyone finds one please let me know and I will try to set up a league or two.

Speaking of fantasy football, I think I promised a final look at how things are going in the Oleole leagues last Thursday, but I never got around to it so I will try to do it tomorrow. With so little Arsenal news about it should be easy enough to find the time.

Here's a fantastic goal from RVP against Blackburn a few years ago.

See You Tomorrow.
