Three Arizona State Sun Devils Sign As Undrafted Free Agents

Christopher AdamsApr 27, 2010

Three Arizona State Sun Devils signed contracts with NFL teams this week.

Wide receiver Chris McGaha, running back Dimitri Nance, and cornerback Pierre Singfield were all offered contracts in their pursuit of making the roster for the 2010 NFL season.

Chris McGaha, who was the only Sun Devil to enter the draft and not hear his name called, was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Leading up to the draft, McGaha was the highest-graded draft choice among the five Sun Devils entering. His draft stock plummeted as the draft grew near due to a recurring hamstring injury.

McGaha will most likely make the active roster. He is a valuable wide receiver with a good combination of size, agility, body control, and great hands.

He will reunite with his old ASU coach, Dirk Koetter, in Jacksonville where he is the offensive coordinator.

Dimitri Nance did not enter the draft, but was signed by the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Nance, a very powerful running back, could provide depth to the Falcons' roster after necessary tackle-breaking skills and footwork are improved.

Cornerback Pierre Singfield signed with the Houston Texans. He played a huge part in the Sun Devil defensive success as a junior college walk-on two years ago. Singfield has a high chance of making the roster if he shows off the defensive skills he showcased at Arizona State.

In addition to these three signed free agents, four Sun Devils were drafted. Defensive end Dexter Davis to the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh, guard Shawn Lauvao to the Cleveland Browns in the third, receiver Kyle Williams to the San Fransisco 49ers in the sixth, and linebacker Travis Goethel to the Oakland Raiders in the sixth.
