Tuesdays at TNA: Tag Team Turmoil?
While wondering where Samoa Joe keeps that machete....
Welcome to Tuesdays at TNA, where we analyze all things going down in Orlando.
Is it just me, or has the tag team ranks, once one of TNA's strongest staples, has truly fallen by the wayside?Ā

Offseason Moves for Every Team š
I remember back in 2006 when the feud between Christopher Daniels-AJ Styles vs. the Latin American Exchange over the tag team titles was the hottest storyline going in wrestling.Ā
These four put on five-star quality matches all summer long and brought back memories of the days in the NWA when the Rock N' Roll Express fought the Midnight Express over the belts.
TNA has been home to some of the best tag teams of the past decade.
America's Most Wanted, the aforementioned LAX, and most recently teams such as Beer Money and the Motor City Machine Guns.Ā
However, if you survey the tag team landscape of 2010, the tag team titles are being held by one man.
That's right, by one man: "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan.
Don't get me wrong, I think Morgan has the potential to be a World Champion someday, possibly as early as next year.Ā
As of now, he is the sole owner of the TNA World Tag Team Championships after he injured his former partner Hernandez and put him out of action with a concussion.Ā
He has spent the past two months referring to himself as we in interviews and teaming with guys such as Amazing Red and Jesse Neal, only to blindside them after winning their matches.
While it has been interesting to see whom TNA management will have Morgan pair up with from week to week, I wonder if they can keep this going, and if this hurts the tag team division going forward.Ā
Let's examine this further by discussing both the positive and the negative....
Positive: Based on Monday Night's episode of IMPACT,Ā it looks as if they may be forming a new team that could make things interesting in the tag team ranks.Ā
Neal and the "Prince of Punk" Shannon Moore seem to have taken their disdain for Morgan's actions and become a team of their own.Ā
As of now there are a lot of teams in TNA that could pose a threat to the one-team wrecking crew of the Blueprint.
Motor City Machine Guns: Long touted as one of the top teams in TNA, fans are still waiting to see Shelly and Sabin finally hold the gold and cement their position as the best youngĀ tag team in wrestling.Ā
They haven't been seen recently on Impact since losing their title match against Morgan-Red, but I believe that they could easily be this generation's Rock N' Roll Express and bring in a new level of fans.
Beer! Money!: Apologies to WWE, but I feel that the tandem of Robert Roode and James Storm is the best team going today, bar none.Ā
They have had numerous title reigns, and their recent heel turn as workers for Eric Bischoff will hopefully result in tag team feuds with not only the MCMG, but also this veteran squad....
Team 3D: The 22-time tag team champs are always a threat to win the titles again.Ā Hopefully they will finish off this meaningless feud with The Band and get back to contending for the straps again.Ā
Generation Me: Not much has been made of the former Young Bucks since debuting in TNA, but I think they can still provide great matches with the aforementioned teams.
Max and Jeremy have had solid matches with the MCMGs, but I don't think they are in a position to threaten anyone for the titles just yet.
Also, another positive about Morgan's tag title reign is that he is such a heat magnet as a heel that fans can't wait to see him lose the belts.Ā
I think this is a test by TNA to see if Morgan has what it takes to be a dominant champion on his own in the future.Ā
I think with his bravado and moveset he could keep this going for a long time.
Negative: Only one major negative is the appearance that these teams look bad losing to Morgan and a partner that he has no chemistry with in the ring.Ā
It's bad enough when both TNA and the WWE just throws two guys together to hold the tag team titles over the more established units.Ā
It's worse when they dominate altogether.Ā Ā
Sure, it mightĀ create an interest for a quick spark, but go back to one of theĀ most exciting times in wrestling when the WWE had a three-way feud in the early part of the 2000's with the Hardyz, Dudley Boyz, and Edge-Christian.Ā
Those were well-established teams that had chemistry, and as a result, classic matches.Ā
Imagine a four-way feud between Team 3D, MCMGs, Beer Money, and Generation Me!Ā
So in all, I think that while this storyline with Morgan holding the tag team championships has been an interesting angle, it is going to quickly lose its steam.Ā
TNA would be wise to move the titles to one of these teams and bring back tag team prominence.
