Oakland Raiders 2010 Draft
To sum up the Oakland Raiders draft one word comes to mind "WOW" because surprisingly it was one of the Raiders best drafts top to bottom and a few years. When the Raiders were on the clock in the first round i didn't know what to expect because Al Davis is very unpredictable. As the Commissioner came out to announce the pick, with the 8th pick in the 2010 draft the Oakland Raiders select Rolando McClain ILB Alabama. As most Raiders fan were probably shocked as was I but this a first in a few years where we actually picked a solid football player who is a hard nose football player. The last few years we have drafted players based on potential and speed and throwing power. In my mind this was a solid pick and the look on Tom Jackson's face made me laugh too because he couldn't bash the Raiders on this pick. Then in the other rounds we picked up a DT in round and an OT in round 3. Another OT in round 4 and WR/KR also in round 4. A CB in round 5. A LB in round 6 and another CB and LB in round 7. Looking at our picks we really hit most of the areas that were need and positions that lacked depth. The addition of Houston in round 2 should help our Dline and even though Cable said he is going to play DE that makes you think if the Raiders are done or if they are looking to make a splash at a DT in the near future, i guess well have to see. Taking Veldheer in round 3 even though he is a project should eventually make an impact in our much depleted Oline that needs some help because 09 was a mess. Our Oline looked beat down for most of the year and we gave up many sacks and penalties set our offense back. As usual in 4th round Al got his players the type he usually picks in the first, but this year we got great value for our project picks because we got OT Bruce Campbell and WR/KR Jacoby Ford. In the future these could be great additions to our team because everyone had Campbell as our first pick and that would have been a mistake but to get him in the 4th was a good deal. If they can help his play at OT then the sky's the limit with this kid because he has all the tools to be a great OT he just needs to polished. Ford will fill a void of embarrassing kick returns in 09. We needed a KR because last year we had our FB returning kicks which was a joke and it seemed we never had good field position. Mcfadden should develop eventually into our starting CB because he is the corner Al likes because he can play man to man and that's what we run in Oakland. The big acquisition of draft for the Raiders was getting QB Jason Campbell. I'm not saying hes a great QB but this is a guy who has improved ever year and actually threw 20 TD which is more than our whole QB corps from last season. He is a guy that is going to come in and put the work in to try and be a solid QB. We all know last year when we had decent play from the QB spot we were a different team, they played with heart and passion to win. With Jamarcus in it didn't seem like we could win and it didn't seem like we wanted to win. With Campbell he should make our offense better and keep us on the field for a little longer than going 3 and out so many times during the game. Overall I think the Raiders had a very solid draft and I'm excited to see what we can do in the regular season.
LETS GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!
