Kevin Harvick edged Jamie McMurray in a battle of two Daytona 500 Champion's on Sunday at the Aarons 499 at Talladega Superspeedway. This race had it all and everyone should be happy with the racing as records were broken from the amount of lead changes, leaders, and the first ever three attempts at a green white checker finish to get a winner on Sunday. This race goes down in history as the most competitive race in Nascar's 60 year history and it was all that and more. High speeds and close tight pack racing made for a exciting race all day. Several big wrecks collected drivers as early as lap 84 when Kyle Busch got into Johnny Sauter in the tri oval and caused the big one collecting Kurt Busch, Max Papis, Matt Kenseth who was second in points coming into Sunday's race. Elliott Sadler, David Stremme, Michael Waltrip who lead the race early with Dale Jr and Paul Menard.

With 78 laps to go Regan Smith blows up and the caution comes out. Great racing all day as the lead swapped 88 times in something we have'nt seen since May 1984 when it happened 75 times. Some indicate that the lead swapped over 150 or more times around the track on Sunday and a record number of drivers lead this race. Never say never at Talladega as anyone has a chance to win.

Final pit stops with nearly 40 laps to go and the race to the finish would be on. At lap 182 Jimmie Johnson seemed to try to block Jeff Gordon going down the backstretch and it bottled up the field well coming around turn four and through the tri oval Mike Bliss in the 09 would make contact with Burton and send him down the track collecting Jeff Gordon. Gordon in a interview said that the 48 is testing his patience, everyone thought that the incident at Texas was just a one time deal and move on well it may not be will see at Richmond. This caution came out with 6 laps to go and makes this a green white checker. Well on the restart they only make it to turn 3 when a huge 7 car accident breaks out when Logano got into Newman and collected Marcos Ambrose, Bobby Labonte, Brad Keselowski last year's winner, Brian Vickers, Sam Hornish Jr, and Kasey Kahne. Now some drivers started wondering who was going to make it on fuel.

The second attempt at a green white checker, the field goes off into turn one as Jamie McMurray leads over Greg Biffle. Biffle must have ran out of gas and things got wild on the backstretch as cars staked up the 48 of Jimmie Johnson would try to squeeze through and made contact with Biffle both went spinning and Johnson hit the inside wall hard. This would take a huge chunk of points away from Johnson and end his day. The third and final attempt at a green white checker would start in overtime the first time ever for 3 attempts, Harvick and McMurray get a good start and pull away from the pack sorta like last year and coming to the line just in time with the pack close Harvick would pass McMurray in a wild and close finish to take the victory at Talladega and snap a 115 race winless drought going back to the 2007 Daytona 500. Harvick timed it right while McMurray got lose in the tri oval and thats all it took. Harvick in the #29 Shell Pennzoil Chevy with RCR goes to victory lane in a well deserved win and heartache for Jamie McMurray who came so close to three plate wins in a row. Harvick is now only 26 points behind Johnson going to Richmond.
