Arsenal Fans Won't Make It Easy for Manchester City Striker

Jamrock RoverApr 23, 2010

What seemed like so much more than a week of torture is almost over and we can at last concentrate on the visit of Man City to the Emirates tomorrow for what is a huge game for both clubs.

A win for Arsenal will almost guarantee we finish third, but City need a win to ensure that they stay firmly in the hunt for fourth place.

In fact, if the Spuds lose at "Manure" earlier in the day we could even celebrate St. Totteringham's day with a victory ourselves, although going on current form that scenario would seem like a pipe dream at this stage.

The game heralds the return of quite a few former Arsenal players, and with one obvious exception they will all get a very good reception I would imagine.

In fact, the Arsenal fans will probably exaggerate the generous applause that they give to Vieira, Toure, and Silvinho just to emphasize to "he who shall remain nameless" that it is entirely personal with him.

During his last season at Arsenal, he became lazier and lazier as the games went by and eventually the fans decided that they had seen enough and turned on him.

We had to listen to him telling us on TV the previous summer that he was a great player and he could join the club of his choice including Barcelona and AC Milan.

He then had the audacity to deny making those statements, but the club were more or less forced into giving him a 'double your money' contract even though he had received a large pay raise the summer before that when Henry left.

He seemed to forget that it was Arsenal who rescued him from obscurity and we could put him back there too.

The manager decided himself that enough was enough with him last summer and decided to cash in on a player who was perceived as a prize asset but had become far too big for his boots. When he was told that Arsenal had decided to sell him, it seems that he wasn't happy as he thought that they were being disloyal to him.

I think it was Arseblog who called him an egomaniac and that is exactly what he is as he believes he is absolutely right in all he says despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Funnily enough, the clubs that he claimed had shown a desire to sign him the previous summer didn't come calling and the only club to show a genuine interest were mega-rich Man City.

It would seem that his agent tried to hawk him all over Europe and there was no interest in him at all. From the reports I have read, the player didn't want to join City, but after it was made clear to him that the boss wanted him out he had no option but to go.

He is, of course, getting paid an absolutely disgusting amount of money to play for them, but a player like him craves the limelight and the amount of that available at City at the moment pales in comparison to Arsenal.

To add fuel to the flames he decided to have a go at the club and its supporters before we went to their ground for a league game in September. Before the kickoff he proceeded to warm up in the faces of the Arsenal players in our half of the pitch and when the game started he went on a one-man mission to injure some of our best players.

His kick on Cesc was a straight red card but the referee chose to ignore it, and his intentional stamp on the head of RVP was absolutely disgusting, but again the referee didn't see it and he escaped unpunished.

However, he eventually received a yellow card when he scored a header and sprinted the length of the pitch to slide in on his knees and celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans.

There were chaotic scenes in the away end and things very nearly got out of hand, but thankfully they didn't.

Knowing how "proactive" the police in Manchester are, I was surprised that they didn't take matters further, but the FA decided that they would and he received a three- or four-game ban for his actions.

I'm sure he will get an unrivalled welcome as he has become a more hated figure than Mr. Tweedey among Arsenal fans and they have being waiting for this game since September 12.

Ahead of the game, the player himself has been warned to show more intelligence, but I don't think he can show what he doesn't have.

He showed how unintelligent he was by being interviewed in an Arsenal top after the tragedy that struck his national team during the ACN and if I felt like he claims to about a club I certainly wouldn't be interviewed in one of their tops as I would have binned the lot.

I had hoped that we might see Arshavin back for the game as he is a top quality player despite our issues with his performances at times this season but he wasn't fit enough to be included in the squad and neither was the "injured" Almunia.

Hopefully Song can pass his fitness test today and be added to the team as we are going to need all of our defensive capabilities to hold back a very potent City strike force. I'll preview the game tomorrow as I must dash now.

Here's a few free kicks from the returning RVP.

See you tomorrow.
