WWE Draft: Success or Burial?

Juric BrownApr 22, 2010

As many readers know, the WWE Draft is nearly upon us. For some, this brings a sense of excitement. For others, mostly in the IWC( that's Internet Wrestling Community for the new blood out there), it's a time for pro wrestling talent to get a chance and become a star or be buried in the shuffle.

Since it's inception in 2002, the draft has become a staple for talent, young or old, to get repackaging on a show where they will be given an opportunity to prove themselves.

As I take a look at this year's draft, I'll evaluate the respective situations between Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown. So without anymore stalling, here we go...

Over the course of the last few months, Randy Orton has been dueling with his cronies (Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes), and getting absolutely nothing for it storyline wise.

With him in the World Title Match at Extreme Rules, the obvious rumor would be for Orton to leave Raw and head for Smackdown. Personally, I would say this is a good move, as I enjoy Orton's work in the ring and on the mic, and performers, excluding a few, with those two intangibles, seem to call their home Smackdown (Edge, Chris Jericho, CM Punk, The Undertaker, etc.). I believe Orton would gel rather nicely with the above mentioned.

With the WWE PG Era, I would expect no real movement on Monday Night Raw. Cena is the guy on that show, don't expect that to change anytime soon.

Hell, maybe not ever at this point. As for the rest of the brand, I feel it could use some major overhaul. Triple HĀ is apparently taking time off for a movie, so he is out of the main event scene.Ā

Batista's contract situation is up in the air, so he is a bit iffy. Also, with Orton potentially leaving for Smackdown, he could be out. After all of that, it appears that John Cena is only one left at the top of the hill.

Continuing with Raw, the middle of the card is in shambles as well. It's a bit of a do-or-die type situation with a few of these guys.

Ted DiBiase has been put on his own as of late (though hinting of a possible new faction). Christian is as over it seems, as most top guys, butĀ continues to do the majority of his work on WWE NXT.

Will a move to Smackdown help his stock, or will a push on the seeminglyĀ open doorĀ on Raw eliminate all questions?

IsĀ Kofi Kingston in or out? Will he or won't he? Is Sheamus ready to step up his work and be the star he is pushed to be, or will he be moved as well? Is Rey Mysterio healthy enough to make a full fledged return to the top of the card?

Are John Morrison, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, and R-Truth readyĀ for the spotlight? These are just aĀ few of the questions being asked, and justĀ a few of the questons that will be answered during the draft andĀ during the current season (Present day-WrestleMania 27).

I guessĀ everyone willĀ just have to find out as the 2010Ā WWE Draft takkes place.

Thanks.Ā
