OK, let me say up front, Ben's behavior in Georgia was immature, immoral and wrong. I don't condone it. But for all of you Steeler fans howling to ride Ben out of town on a rail let me throw a couple of names at you: Kordell Stewart, Bubby Briester, Tommy "Gun" Maddox. Let me throw out some more, Neil O'Donnell, Mark Malone, Mike Tomzack.

Guys, I am probably older than most of you reading this. I have been following the Steelers since Terry Bradshaw was drafted and then benched in favor of Joe Gilliam. When Terry finally took over for good the Steelers won Super Bowls. We then wandered in the desert for 25 years in search of a QB to lead us to the promised land.

Hall of fame caliber QBs come by once in a generation if you are lucky.  Before we throw ours away for a top 10 draft pick that will allow us to get a big left tackle, maybe we should all step away from the emotion button. Trading Ben is just plain crazy.

We have already sent a message throwing away Santonio Holmes. We have reinforced it by cooperating with the league in punishing Ben when no criminal charges were filed. But spare me the "we don't care if we lose" nonsense. Steeler fans will be howling when we go 8-8 or or worse.

Ben will learn some hard life lessons from this, but he will learn and be a better person for it. This we are held to a higher standard because we are Steelers stuff has to stop when it becomes suicidal.  They are not the Samurai Steelers who have to fall on their swords because of some dishonor.

The Steelers are a football team, not boy scouts. This young man named Ben Roethlisberger made some mistakes. He is taking his medicine. Lets not knee jerk our way into the NFL no-mans land by trading him!
