Ernie Sims and Tony Scheffler Swap Teams In 3-Way Trade

Adam Schefter of ESPN broke news today of a three way trade that included two NFL veterans.

Eagles Get: Linebacker Ernie Sims

Eagles Lose: Eagles 2010 5th round pick

Trade Grade: A

Commentary: Sims should start at either WLB or SLB. Sims will likely replace Akeem Jordan at WLB, and Moise Fokou will likely start on the strong side. According to Gregg Rosenthal of PFT, Omar Gaither is likely the odd man out.

Lions Get: Tight End Tony Scheffler and 7th round pick

Lions Lose: Linebacker Ernie Sims

Trade Grade: C+

Commentary: The Lions were looking at tight ends because Brandon Pettigrew is recovering from an ACL injury, and Casey FitzSimmons recently retired. The Lions have some things to sort out at linebacker now that Larry Foote and Sims have left. According to Pro Football Talk, the Lions are interested in linebacker Akin Ayodele. Scheffler has one year left on his contract, but he told the Lions that he will not seek a new contract. According to Michigan Live, Scheffler will be used in a Dallas Clark type role as a third wide receiver.

Broncos Get: Eagles 2010 5th round pick

Broncos Lose: Tight End Tony Scheffler and 7th round pick

Trade Grade: F

Commentary: Scheffler grew up as a Lions fan, and I'm sure he is glad to be out of Denver, but the Broncos got the worst end out of this trade. Expect to see more of second year tight end Richard Quinn in 2010.
