Was there any doubt in anybody's mind that when Brad Lidge entered the All-Star game last night that he was going to blow the game? I'm going to come out and say it: Brad Lidge is the worst pitcher to ever step foot on the mound. There has never been a bigger waste of a 6'5" frame that can hurl 95 MPH fastballs (except for Dwayne Jarrett).
All Lidge does is blow saves (amongst other things), and it's time someone said something about it. It's not like he only did it last night; he does it every night it matters. He sucks. He may be able to save games consistently in the regular season (some of the time, ask the Astros), but he flat out doesn't come to play when the spotlight is on him.
In addition, it's when the lights come on that the stars come out. It's like a porn star producing her best work with her husband, and not with Peter North. It makes no sense to me. It's not only that he sucks at pitching, I hate that little mole he has on his right cheek. In addition, his pitching motion is annoying. However, I digress.
- B/R Ticket Guide
Back in the glory days, in 2005, Lidge was one of the games "great closers.” Or so he was called. In the NCLS, Pujols rocked his world with a 3-run home run in Game 5. Later on that playoffs, Lidge gave up a walk-off in the World Series to Scott Podsednik (who has since been diagnosed with I-never-hit-a-home-run-ever-ia).
That's not to mention that Aaron Miles has Lidge's number and bangs his wife when Brad's at work. He's a choker. Why is he a closer? He closes the deal worse than a Arizona State graduate trying to make a business contract.
He was demoted from closer by the Astros and traded to the Phillies for virtually nothing. They should have just traded him because they no longer wanted him to stink up the clubhouse. Why is this guy considered a good player? He serves up home runs like they are Grand Slam breakfasts on a Saturday morning.
He is the most injury prone guy I know. He gets hurt more often then Tiger "Cry-Baby" Woods. I could probably touch him and he'd be on the 60-day DL for spinal contusions. Congratulations on your 20 saves and your All-Star appearance Brad, but you'll always be a loser in my book.

Someone has some serious deep-seated issues regarding Brad Lidge... I mean, some guys I hate cuz they're Cardinals.. what's your story buddy?
Lidge has been lights out for Philly, he failed in the All-Star, but so did Billy Wagner, and Edinson Volquez... Wagner was the only one with a traditional save opportunity. Lidge didn't have a lead to work with. What he did have was 100 warmups among the 5 times he got up to get ready.
Good Job, Brad Lidge... you're an ok guy. Phillies suck!

I would have to say that this sounds a bit more personal than anything else. Lidge is a solid closer, more solid than most teams.
Brad Lidge had to warm up 5 times in the All-Star game before he entered. If I remember correctly, it was Billy Wagner that actually blew the game in the eighth for the NL by allowing the run to tie it and send it into extras. It's common knowledge that when you send a closer into a tie game, bad things happen.
Frankly if I had to chose the worst, or most overatted closer in the league, the award would go to Wagner. Having watched both for a significant period, Wagner blows way more games than Lidge.

I wish I knew a way to flag an entire wasted life as offensive, and I am not talking about Brad Lidge.

That is one of the best comments I've ever read on this site.

Yeah this article was way over the top. I dont see any truth to your arguments. Lidge dominated with Houston until he hit a wall, and seemingly he has found his confidence in Philly again. He has not blown a save for the Phils all year.
And to be honest, as a Mets fan growing up in NY and forced into seeing Mariano save games, no one will ever be as clutch as he is. Every other closer is terrible: Wagner, Hoffman (::2006 All star game blown save::) and the list goes on. So to simply throw Lidge to the wolves all alone as a terrible closer in unfair in my opinion.

lol ok buddy. Lidge is 20 for 20 this year, he still clocks in around 96 mph, and he went into the all star game...at 1:30 am...after throwing over 100 pitches in the bullpen.
this could be the worst argument i ever heard for anything. ever. i hope this is a satire or something.

I think you are an absolute moron if you truly think that. I'm not going to go into any argument with you if you really think he is terrible because I don't want to waste my time arguing someone just using a biased and ignorant opinion so that is all I will say. I think you are a moron if you really think he sucks.

Kind of feel like a jackass now don't ya? But you're right, I guess the spotlight isn't too bright with a one run lead in the 9th inning of a potential clinching game of the World Series. Maybe evaluate players from a more objective point of view and get a god damn clue before you put your opinion on the web? Dumb Ass.
