Michél Real Madrid's New Manager as Florentino Perez Wants a Pep Guardiola
It's no surprise that the days of Manuel Pellegrini are almost up, with the Chilean manager failing to deliver Real Madrid the European, and perhaps not even domestic, glory they expected.
Pellegrini has become more and more distant with the players and the president of the club, and in the words of the man himself on the Spanish sports radio program El Larguero, "I don't usually talk to the president."
He followed that line up with another, saying of his employers, "They haven't called me about planning for next season."
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has invested a ludicrous amount in his team, and of course wants instant success, like Real and their fans always do.
In an ideal world, Perez would dream of having current FC Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola in charge of Los Galácticos.
But even for a club with as much prestige as Real Madrid, that wouldn't be a viable option.
And whilst the usual names of Jose Mourinho, Rafael Benitez, Carlo Ancelotti, and Fabio Capello will always pop up, a blog on Spanish Web site 20minutos.es has hit the nail on the head.
The headline states "Florentino [Perez] wants his Guardiola," before offering up the man who could be Madrid's answer to Guardiola.
Getafe manager Michél is that answer; the man who played over 400 matches for Real Madrid, and is now flourishing after taking on his first managerial challenge in La Liga with the team from the Madrid suburbs.
After being appointed at the end of the 2008/09 season, Michél achieved his mission objective as La Liga strugglers Getafe avoided relegation in the last match of the season.
This season the club is now eighth in the table and still in contention for a UEFA Europa League place.
Star striker Roberto Soldado, a product of Real Madrid, has netted 12 league goals so far this campaign despite poor service from midfield, emphasising how Michél knows how to get the best out of his key players.
As was written in the 20minutos.es article, Michél may well be ideal for Real Madrid with his ability to really connect with the players (unlike Pellegrini it would seem) and the knowledge he already has of the setup at the Santiago Bernabeu.
And as one commentator wrote, "Madrid need a manager with balls." Well, perhaps Michél could be that manager.
