Arsenal Players Must Step Up To Win Again!

Hasmat MustunApr 19, 2010

Ok, so it was always going to be tough for Arsenal to win the title, but the way the Gunners rattled over the last couple of weeks makes you ponder how far this Arsenal team can really go.

I understand what everyone will be raving about, the fact that Arsenal missed so many important players such as Gallas, Van Persie, Fabregas and Song (in some matches). However, my question to everyone is a simple one: Isn't that what football is all about?

Manchester United's best player this season, by far Wayne Rooney, has been mostly injury free but as soon as he misses a game or two, United struggle. However Berbatov does step up and causes serious problems when he wants to!

Chelsea's big hitmen Drogba is a powerful striker who is key for them. But The Blues also have Anelka and other attacking midfielders such as Malouda, Joe Cole, Kalou and Sturridge who can step up, and did, when the Ivorian striker has been missing.

No managers in a season can keep the same players and not expect injuries, therefore they must prepare for it. Every year, Arsenal have had to deal with injuries but it is a fact that those players stepping up from the bench are just not good enough.

And all this argument about not having a plan B, well against Tottenham, we had a plan B in the form of 6ft Bendtner but nobody crossed the ball into the box as much as it was needed. It was too easy for Spurs and embarrassing. I mean, Bendtner was in the box and players refused to cross it in, instead they hog the ball (Diaby- the guilty party) and get nowhere! We cannot blame Arsene Wenger, he has given the players the plan B, it is up to them to use common sense. Spurs struggled with crosses throughout the game, we should have bombarded the box a lot more than we did.

And the Wigan game, well what can you say, is it a case of actually using the money to spend and change some individuals in the squad? Here's positions that need monitoring and new recruits.

Goalkeeper: This is where Arsenal need a top class personnel in the side. A number one goalkeeper who shows consistency and is reliable. Joe Hart is a name that has been reported lately.

Chamackh looks like he is on his way to Arsenal, if he comes in, I do not think Arsenal will sign another striker.

WINGERS NEEDED to run at defenders and cross the ball. Players with the brains of Aaron Lennon like Shaun Wright Phillips who could become available.

And another top defender like Vermaelen- he has been immense for Arsenal.

Ditch:

Rosicky? Am sorry to say this but the Czech is too injury prone and is way too similar to Nasri, both cannot play in the same team.

Eduardo? He has lost the pace and is finding it difficult to cope physically with the Premier League again. Maybe send him out on loan and see if he can find his predator touch once again.

And why do we have Carlos Vela? bags of pace, yet he never plays. He could play on the left wing, he showed this in the Carling Cup and the FA Cup!

If Arsenal can secure some key signings over the summer and players stay injury free then I am certain Arsenal can mount a serious title challenge but once again we are left saying "There's always next year!".
