Bulls Vs. Cavs, Jazz Vs. Nuggets Point Spread Picks, Preview

Joe DuffyApr 19, 2010

NBA Playoff odds continue Monday night with two games. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to continue their dominance over the Chicago Bulls. Later in the evening, a west coast tilt gets underway when the Utah Jazz try to even their series with the Denver Nuggets. Here are today’s free picks from ScoresOddsPicks, part of OffshoreInsiders.com.

Chicago Bulls at Cleveland Cavaliers (-10.5) – 8:00 p.m. ET

Cleveland’s 96-83 win over Chicago on Saturday was the third time in four meetings the Cavs have covered on NBA betting lines against the Bulls. The Cavaliers have also beat Chicago straight up in three of their past four games (LeBron James was comfortably resting on the bench during the lone loss, with first-place totally locked up). James was great against Chicago in Game 1, racking up 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and four blocks. Shaquille O’Neal was a surprising contributor; playing for the first time since Feb. 25, Shaq chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three blocks.

Chicago got 28 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds from point guard Derrick Rose. He was the only Bull who could get anything going offensively, as only three players managed to hit double-digits in scoring. Chicago was absolutely man-handled on the glass, yielding a 50-38 rebounding edge to Cleveland.

That’s an awfully big spread for the Cavs to cover, but this is an awfully good team. Cleveland will certainly be up by double digits throughout this game. The only question is if Chicago closes the gap with LeBron on the bench at the end of a blowout and burns sports betting fans.

Pick: Cleveland

Utah Jazz at Denver Nuggets (-7.5) – 10:30 p.m. ET

Denver earned a 126-113 victory over Utah on Saturday. The Nuggets easily covered the six-point spread, though they are just 4-5-1 against the spread in their last 10 games. The Nuggets are just 4-6 against the spread in their last 10 home games. Carmelo Anthony led the team against Utah with a playoff career-high 42 points. JR Smith added 20 points off the bench; he hit four three-pointers in the fourth quarter, racking up 18 points in that period to open the game up.

Utah has covered just four of its last 10 games on NBA odds, including a 2-5 ATS run. Another game in Denver isn’t very promising—the Jazz are 4-6 in their last 10 games against the spread when playing away from home. Injuries are killing Utah; the Jazz were already without Andrie Kirilenko due to a calf injury, but they lost Mehmet Okur in Game 1 thanks to a torn Achilles. He’s done for the postseason. Deron Williams had 26 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

There’s just too much for Utah to overcome at this point. Injuries are killing the Jazz and Denver looks primed to take advantage. The Nuggets are 7-1-2 against the spread in their last 10 games against Utah. The trend continues.

Pick: Denver
