Monday Meet and Greet: Drian Francisco

Tyler CurtisAnalyst IApril 19, 2010

This Saturday Drian Francisco became the mandatory for the WBA super flyweight champion. Currently there are three WBA champions at that weight.

Who exactly he is the mandatory for is beyond me. At any rate he has beaten a former titlist in Roberto Vasquez.

He has a very good punch and fights in an aggressive style. His style is often compared to former Philippine fighter Luisito Espinosa.

I guess many people have not seen him fight and if you haven’t I suggest you check him out. (

Fight I Want to See: Although he may not be ready for Nonito Donaire it would be an all Philippine showdown. Also Donaire has one of the three WBA titles that Francisco is the mandatory for.

I cant say how big of a fan favorite Francisco but there is surely money in this fight in the Philippines.

Fights with Tomas Rojas, Muvhuso Nedzanani, or Danilo Pena would seem like good options. Rojas is a former champion that seems to be fading.

Nedzanani is young and hungry like Francisco and Pena would be an another all Philippine showdown.

What is in his future: Since he just fought he has nothing schedule and I would assume he would be looking to cash in his WBA mandatory status soon.

At 27 he isn’t getting any younger and little guys flame out much faster than the big guys.
