With The Top Ten Picks In The 2010 NFL Draft...
1. ST LOUIS RAMS - - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
The Rams have had top 3 selections the last 2 years and theyĀ have taken the safe pick each time: Ā Chris Long, DE from Virginia in 2008, and Jason Smith,OT from Baylor in 2009.Ā Both have not performed like 2nd overall picks, but the jury is still out on them. Ā However,Ā Ā they won't take the safe pick this year by selecting Bradford.Ā It seems like a safe pick now, but after a season-ending injury to shoulder in his last season at OU, he was definitely questionable in January and February. But after an impressive string of interviews and a tremendous pro day last month, Bradford is the best pick for the Rams who desperately need a franchise QB and something to get excited about in the Lou.Ā And with the release of veteran QB Marc Bulger, this pick seems inevitable.

2. DETROIT LIONS - - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
After a years of coping with former GM Matt Millen's obsession with wide receivers, the Lions finally got a pick right last year by taking Matt Stafford 1st overall.Ā And while I believe they should use this years top pick to protect him, they will likely be in the market for a run stopping presence in the middle.Ā The Lions ranked 25th in the NFL last year vs. the run and need to improve drastically. And wouldn't head coach Jim Schwartz love to clog up the middle like he did with Albert Haynesworth in Tennessee?
3. TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS - - Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
With Suh off the board, the Buccaneers will pick the other DT, Gerald McCoy.Ā Many mock drafts have the Bucs taking safety Eric Berry, because every Tampa 2 defense needs a good safety (John Lynch anyone?), but as much as they need a player at in the back, they need a player up front to stop the run which was not only worse than Detroit's, but every other NFL team in 2009. With McCoy they get an inside presence to stop the run and get to the QB, something they haven't had since the Warren Sapp days.Ā
NOTE: For a fun - but likely irrelevant - fact, McCoy stated in a recent interview with the NFL Network that he would have committed to Miami had he been introduced to a former Hurricane during his visit. That former Hurricane: Warren Sapp.
4. WASHINGTON REDSKINS - - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
The Redskins may have taken Bradford if he had been available, and most likely would have taken a chance on Jimmy Clausen.Ā But with the acquisition of Donovan McNabb, they will select the pick they should have all along and that is OT Russell Okung.Ā With the loss of veteran OT Chris Samuels to retirement, the 'Skins will take Okung to replace his presence at the end of the line.Ā With McNabb their for the next few years, head coach Mike Shanahan, can put his QB-of-the-future plans on hold and build up an offensive line, a unit steeped in tradition down in D.C.
5. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS - - Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
Kansas City needs to protect QB Matt Cassel who was sacked 42 times by opposing teams last season and they need big help at the tackle position.Ā Bryan Bulaga is a big upgrade for them in this area and will certainly start right away barring injury. Ā
6. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Many analysts and scouts have said that Berry is the best overall athlete in this draft, but with no front office wanting to pay a safety Top 5 money, the talented Berry will drop to the Seahawks at 6 and make Pete Carroll a very happy man. Safety is a need in the Emerald City and a ball-hawking safety can surely help improve a shaky 2009 defense.Ā
7. CLEVELAND BROWNS - - Joe Haden, CB, Florida
The Browns won't mess around with this pick, opting for the very talented Haden.Ā Other mock drafts have flirted with the idea of the Browns taking Clausen at this spot, but I don't know if the dog pound can handle another Notre Dame quarterback rag doll so soon. Ā
8. OAKLAND RAIDERS - - Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
The Raiders took Darius Heyward-Bey at number 7 last year based mainly on the fact that he ran the fastest 40 yard dash at the combine last year. Al Davis' love of the fast, strong, freakish athlete is an antiquated theory that Raider Nation hopes he soon abandons. But the elderly become set in their ways and the Raiders yet again will fill a need with a guy who performed extremely well at the combine.
9. BUFFALO BILLS - - Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee
The Bills are moving to a 3-4 defensive scheme under new coach Chan Gailey and with that, they need an effective nose tackle.Ā Williams is the best pure nose tackle in the draft and could be a force in the middle.
10. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS - - Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
Bryant has been receiving a ton of scrutiny concerning his off-the-field issues since he was suspended after only three games in his final year at OSU, but he is by far the most talented receiver in this draft and could have gone earlier in the top 10. But with so many teams worried about the personal lives of players these days, he'll drop to 10.
