2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – EAST REGION – SECOND ROUND
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā #5 Marquette 83, #37 Arkansas-Little Rock 59
Ā Ā Ā Lazar Hayward produced the game of the tournament so far in leading Marquette to an 83-59 thrashing of Arkansas-Little Rock in a SMCAA East 2nd round game.Ā Hayward scored 38 points and had 16 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles to the victory.Ā He shot 13 of 23 from the floor, including hitting 7 of 11 three point shots, and was 5 of 6 from the free throw line.Ā Jimmy Butler was the only other Marquette player in double figures with 11 points in the game.
Ā Ā Ā Matt Mouzy was the only Trojan in double figures with 15 points including 3 three pointers.Ā UALR struggled from beyond the arc, however, hitting just 23% of their attempts.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā #21 Idaho 75, #12 South Carolina 63
Ā Ā Ā Idaho built a 14 point halftime lead and was able to maintain it throughout the second half to upset South Carolina 75-63 in a 2nd round East contest.Ā Mac Hopson led the way for the Vandals as he scored 18 points on 8 for 12 shooting on the night.Ā He also led Idaho on the boards with 9 rebounds.Ā Kashif Watson (10 points) and Marvin Jefferson (10 points, 8 rebounds) were also in double figures fro the victors.
Ā Ā Ā South Carolina was led by Devan Downey and his 17 points, which included three 3 pointers.Ā But the Gamecocks had a rough night shooting, making only 38% of the shots overall and 6 of 18 (33%) from three point range.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā EAST REGION 3RD ROUND: #21 Idaho vs. #5 Marquette
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā #20 Troy 74, #13 Colorado 62
Ā Ā Ā Troy raced out to a 15 point halftime lead and controlled the game in the second half to defeat Colorado 74-62 in an East 2nd round matchup.Ā Michael Vogler led they way for the Trojans with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field and was a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line.Ā Richard Delk (14 points), and Yamene Coleman (11 points, 15 rebounds) also contributed in the win for Troy.
Ā Ā Ā The Buffaloes got 20 points from Cory Higgins, 12 points from Alec Burks, and Marcus Relphorde added 11 in the loss.Ā Colorado couldnāt make shots as they were just 39% from the floor and 35% behind the arc.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā #4 Washington 82, #36 Eastern Washington 69
Ā Ā Ā Washington got 23 points from Quincy Pondexter as the entire Husky team had a hot shooting night in beating Eastern Washington 82-69 in a 2nd round East contest.Ā Pondexter, who was 9 of 13 shooting on the night, also had 6 rebounds and 5 assists as well.Ā UW shot 54% from the floor on the night and 87% (13-15) from the line.Ā Matthew Bryan-Amaning added 11 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
Ā Ā Ā Benny Valentine scored 14 points, including 4 three pointers, to lead the Eagles off the bench. Glen Dean (11 points) and Jeffrey Forbes (10 points) were also in double figures for EWU in the loss.
