Hey guys I am back. Ever since I joined this site I have read a couple of articles about the top ten lists pertaining to say stables, feuds, heels etc and have been wanting to write one myself, but feared the criticism I would face. Now thanks to support from many of my friends here I finally got the courage to write down a list of “My” top 10 “WWE” superstars. By saying WWE I mean I have taken into account the time period from 2002-2010[till date] Also this list does not include greats like Austin and Rock because these guys have not even “wrestled” for even a total of 12 months since the name change took place and time is a factor taken into consideration while formulating the ranks obtained by various guys. I have basically considered the titles won, the crowd reaction generated and time period for which these studs were part of the WWE. So here we go, let’s hope you guys like it!
Now I know that many of you guys are going to hate me for this(as far as I think) but just hear me out first.
Eddie is there because that guy deserves to be there. I mean from 2002 to about January 2004 this guy, even though was not a main eventer, but still was one of the hottest assets on SD. Whether a face or a heel he could make the entire crowd go mad with his in-ring antics.
The guy literally rocked the tag team division on SD along with Chavo in 2002-2003 and gave us some of the best tag team matches ever. He even had a good feud with Edge back then and did a great job with Tajiri as his tag team partner while even defeating “The Hot Rod” and his protégé before turning on Tajiri
Then he entered the US Title scene and won it by defeating Beniot at Vengeance in what I thought was a great match. He had a feud with Big Show where in he gave us a lot to laugh about before loosing the title to him and even had a good feud with Chavo Gurrero before going for the top prize
When he won the WWE Title from Brock Lesner at No Way Out 2004, the entire WWE universe just fell in love with him and he got hell lot of pop from the crowd and was the top draw on the brand up until he teamed with Mysterio again in 2005 an feuding with him in what became a heated but great rivalry.
Now the reason why he is No. 10 is because, like I said, I did consider time as a factor and sadly, he was in the business for just the three years. Had the unwanted disaster not occurred he would have been way higher.
Latino Heat will always be remembered because of his Viva La Raza stance and his ability to give his some great moments to laugh our asses off.
The reason why Benoit is on that list is because a wrestler’s greatness should be measured by what he does inside the ring and not outside. Even though you guys really might hate him for what he did, the truth is that he was one hell of a wrestler
He has by far been one of the best technicians to have ever stepped foot in the WWE ring. As you know in the word “WWE” the second ‘W’ means wrestling so what you do in personal life should not prevent you from judging the man’s greatness.
In fact, had he been alive today he would surely have been in the top five for sure because of the way he could turn any match into a moment to remember: hence he is on my list.
The reason why he is No. 10 is because even though he was a part of the “WWE” alone for 5 years, which is good enough but I feel, after he lost his title in 2004 to Orton he kinda never came back on the main event scene and hence was not the top draw before resting in peace once and for all. So I guess that went against his position in my list
Also the reason why these two have the same position because Eddie’s great ‘lie cheat steal’ gimmick was pretty much important or valuable to Benoit’s pure wrestling talent and even though Benoit had two more years than Eddie he wasn’t used very well later on hence I give them the same position.
Wrestling skills do matter, but the truth is that Eddie just made the crowd fall in love with him so his gimmick and crowd reaction got him to the level of Benoit
I know many of guys are going to go against me on keeping Benoit in this list so I would really-really like to know if you agree with me or not on this one!
Sitting at no. 9 is the only ‘Olympic Gold Medalist’ in the WWE ever: Kurt Angle.
In his case as well the time period for which he was in the ‘WWE’ alone i.e. four years went against him. A guy with such great in-ring potential and great wrestling skills along with the ability to be a top heel and top face of a brand in no time just makes him a one of a kind.
He even teamed up with Benoit, and the two even won the tag team titles on one occasion before feuding with one another in brilliant technical matches.
Kurt made SD the brand it was in 2003 because he was the WWE champ at that time. He along with Lesner gave us some of the really good matches on SD.
Whether face or a heel it did not make a difference to him, because he could really make the crowd literally stand up and applause his unique and awesome in ring abilities those countering maneuvers angle locks etc.
He headlined i.e. fought in back to back main event matches at Mania 19 and 20 even though he lost he put on great matches but the classics came at Wrestlemania 21 when he beat Shawn in what I believe is one of the most underrated matches till date .
He even had a great rivalry with Eddie Gurrero back in 2004 on SD which was so intense, yet we saw really great matches from them.
He became a two time WWE Champion and even went on two capture the WHC title once. He did a pretty good job as the GM of SD as well and also gave birth to Team Angle which was turning on to be a pretty great heel stable as well.
Had he still been with the WWE they would have not been in the position they are at now but still he did a lot for the company in those four years. Hats off to Kurt.
At no. 8 is the Animal Batista
I know many of you guys here won't agree with me on this one, but my answer is that the guys above him have sort of achieved more.
The reason why he made it to the top ten is because the guy’s career just took off ever since he won the WHC title from Triple H at Wrestlemania-21 and since then he has achieved a lot after having won the Royal Rumble that year.
He gained mainstream popularity thanks to Evolution which took him to a level he could have never imagined. He became Raw’s animal fought with the likes of Shawn and Beniot on a regular basis and really dominated them with ease.
After Wrestlemania 21 he got drafted to SD where he won the WHC title on multiple occasions and even managed to get a huge applause from the crowd in his matches with Taker, something which is not easy to achieve. He along with Edge and Taker took good care of SD until he was drafted back to RAW again.
He won the WWE Championship twice, once defeating Cena and once Orton. He has main evented Wrestlemania 21, 23 and 26(recently) and that record just speaks for itself.
Many might say that he deserved to be high up on the list, but I suppose that with the amount of injuries he had which kept him out for a long amount of time on a regular basis went against him.
Also, until 2005 he wasn’t the star he is today so I guess that was another factor due to which other wrestlers were prefered over him because they had a name for themselves even before he joined the WWE.
At no.7 is Y2J Chris Jericho.
He has been one of the best wrestlers in the WWE till date. In fact the only one who has come pretty close to be compared with Shawn Michaels.
He won the IC Title on multiple occasions and was the top draw on the RAW brand from 2002-2005 i.e. until he took a break from WWE.
In that span of time he put on a great match with Shawn Michaels at Mania 19. He even got involved in a good story line feud with friend turned foe Christian and later Trish and fought at Wrestlemania 20.
He was one man who made many face and heel turns in that point of time but still managed to put on really good matches, promos every week and got the crowd to his feet whenever he entered the ring.
He then took a break from wrestling after having a brief feud with John Cena for the WWE Title.
He returned after around two years and really is “Saving” the WWE due to his great wrestling ability and awesome promos. He had a great feud with Shawn in 2008 where we got an opportunity to see some great matches after a long time on RAW.
He was the Superstar of the year 2008, and rightly so.
He even joined forces with Edge(for a really short time) but later on teamed up with Big Show and held the Unified Tag Team Titles for a good amount of time and have really done a great job in getting the title a lot of respect.
He even one the WHC title thrice since coming back and even participated in one of the main event matches against Edge, which he won in an other wise great match.
In his case as well the time taken off went against him because he surely deserved to be in the top three had he not taken a break.
At number six is the phenom who just ended Shawn’s career at Wrestlemania: The Undertaker.
The reason why he is at this position is because of the breaks he has taken from this business on a regular basis. As a result of this he hasn’t really been the face of SD for a long-long time.
He has though beaten the likes of Show and A-Train, Kane, Orton, Henry, Batista, Edge and Shawn Michaels on consecutive Wrestlemania’s respectively.
Even though he might have won just three WHC titles in the last three years, his back to back great performances week after week and month after month and carrying matches on many nights puts him on this list.
Taker stepped into the WWE with his biker gimmick, one of the best gimmicks I have seen thus far. He along with Kurt and Lesner was the top guy of SD till around 2003, before he was according to the storyline buried by Kane.
Ever since Taker returned to the WWE in 2004 he has been using his dead man persona and has really went on to become a legend among legends.
He has had great-great feud with Randy Orton back in 2005. He even feuded with the likes of Mark Henry on many occasions on SD. He even won the Royal Rumble for the first time in his career in 2007. Since then he has gone on to defeat Batista and Edge on successive Wrestlemania matches to become the WHC.
He has since then got into rivalries with Edge and Batista and put on great matches on from SD on the various PPV events.
At Mania 25 in one of the best matches of all time he defeated Shawn Michaels in a classic bout. He then took a break from Wrestling and returned to become a three time WHC champion by defeating CM Punk.
He kept the title for a good five months before loosing it to Chris Jericho following interference from Shawn Michaels and gradually accepted the challenge to face him at this years Mania and went on to win thus ending the career of one of the best wrestlers ever.
At number five is the ultimate opportunist Edge
Well well what to say about this man. He surely is the ultimate opportunist grabbing every opportunity that came his way and turning it into a World Title.
Edge has won the WWE Title four times and the WHC title five times in a span of just four years. He stepped into the WWE as a mid card player the fans believed in and was hell bent on becoming the top draw in the business one day.
He won the Tag Team Title along with Rey Mysterio and fought with the Gurrero’s and the team of Kurt and Benoit and really provided a lot of importance to the tag team division before getting injured for around an year or so.
He returned on RAW and teamed with Benoit and they became tag team champs and even won the IC title from Randy before being injured again. Since then he turned a heel and pursued to become the World Heavyweight Champion.
After trying really hard, he finally won the MITB at Mania 21. He got involved in a personal rivalry with Matt and was managed by Lita in an insanely boiling rivalry. He then shocked the world by pinning Cena at New Years Revolution by cashing in his MITB after a long, long time.
Since then, he has not looked back. He put a great hardcore Match with Mick Foley at Wrestlemania 22 and even became a two time WWE Champion by pinning Van Dam in a triple threat match even involving Cena.
After loosing the title he joined forces with Randy Orton and formed Rated RKO a great tag team which even defeated DX.
In 2007 he got drafted to SD and challenged Mr. Kennedy to his MITB contract and won it and later cashed it against Taker to become the WHC champion for the first time in his life.
Since then Edge became the top heel on the SD brand till 2009 when was injured. In the mean time he won the WHC title 4 more times and the WWE title twice and put on great matches with guys like Batista and Taker.
He even fought Taker to a loosing effort at Wrestlemania 24 but really put on a great fight. He even won the WWE Championship again in the mean time twice and lost it at EC but then managed to get into RAW’s chamber and win the WHC for the fourth time.
He along with Show lost to Cena only to get it back at Backlash. After that he got in a feud with Jeff Hardy whom he lost the title to, at Extreme Rules which was later won by Punk who cashed in his MITB conmtract.
He then won the Unified Tag Team Championship in june along with Jericho but got injured a month later and hence was out of the WWE for about six months before entering the Royal Rumble this year as the surprise 29th entrance and last eliminating Cena to win.
He then challenged Jericho for the WHC title at Mania in a loosing effort but the ultimate opportunist is sure to win the title soon.
At number four is the Legend Killer turned Viper Randy Orton.
Randy Orton, along with the other top three guys has really been one of the top draws of the business and has a great future ahead of him
The reason why I kept him at number four is because I feel that the other guys, though equally important as Orton might just have achieved more and also his injury in 2008 which kept him out for some time might have gone against him.
Orton debuted in the WWE in 2002 but gained mainstream popularity when he became a part of Evolution. He was considered to be the future of the WWE back then and it was so true.
He fought guys like Shawn Michalels, Chris Benoit and also Mick Foley whom he met on many occasions and defeated him in brutal matches to prove his superiority to the wrestling world.
He won the IC title and took the legend killer persona and used his deadly RKO to finish off his opponents in the match. He feuded with the likes of RVD, Foley etc and even spat on the face of Harley Race and gained hell lot of heat from the crowd.
He RKO’d the holy hell out of every superstar he could get his hands on and finally went on to become the youngest WHC after defeating Benoit at SummerSlam and Evolution turned against him thus turning him a face.
Even though he lost the title a month later to HHH he spent the rest of the year till the Royal Rumble to regain his title but lost.
He then got into a one of the best rivalries of the WWE with The Undertaker in the year 2005 and after that finally got a chance to main event at Mania 22 for the WHC in a loosing effort.
He then returned to RAW formed Rated RKO and they even defeated DX.
After that went on a rampage and used his legend killer persona to beat guys like Michaels, RVD, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and Sgt. Slaughter and started to get a lot of heat.
He then got into a rivalry with John Cena and was awarded the WWE title at No Mercy for the first time in his career after Cena got injured and that night he lost the title to HHH that night only to win it back the same night.
He then fought with Jeff Hardy for the WWE championship and successfully defended it and started the age of Orton and even successfully defended his WWE title against Cena and HHH at Wrestlemania 24.
He later lost the title to HHH at backlash and then lost the rematch as well and even broke his collarbone thus being out due to injury.
He returned and formed the Legacy and they helped him win the Royal Rumble in 2009 and they went after the Mc.Man family and fought HHH in a losing effort at Mania 25 for the WWE Championship.
But since then he won the WWE championship on many occasions and feuded with the likes Of John Cena and HHH for the title which changed hands on many occasions.
IN 2010 he split up with Legacy and went on to defeat both Cody and Ted at Wrestlemania this year and is also the current contender for the WHC Title against Swagger at ER.
At number three is The Game HHH
He surely has been a WWE and one of the most experienced and successful wrestlers of the WWE. He has won championships after championships headlined PPV’s after PPV’s and helped the WWE put over many stars.
Tripe H was awarded the WHC title on RAW by Eric Bischoff and was the top heel or rather the top star on RAW until 2005 when Batista defeated him at Wrestlemaina and John Cena got drafted t the RAW brand.
HHH held his WHC title for more than majority of the time he was the top star on RAW. He lost it once to Michaels at Survivor Series in 2002 only to win it back Armageddon and defeated guys like RVD, Booker-T, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash etc..
He even joined forces with Ric Flair, Randy Orton and Batista and formed a heel stable Evolution which is one of the top stables to date.
He finally lost his title to Goldberg after a long reign at Unforgiven only to win it back at Armageddon in a triple threat match which even involved Kane. He then defended his title at Wrestlemania 20 and lost it to Benoit in a match which even involved Shawn Michaels.
He then took a break from the WHC scene and in the mean time ended his rivalry with Eugene and HBK and then finally regained his title from Randy Orton at Unforgiven and then finally at Wrestlemania 21 lost his title to Batista and after loosing two rematches in a row, took a break from wrestling.
He returned as part of WWE homecoming but turned on Flair thus resulting in a feud between the two after that he tried to win the WWE Title from Cena but was not successful and gradually re formed DX.
The two wrecked havoc in the life of Vince Mc.Man’s llife and became one of the top property on RAW they feuded with Vince and Shane, Rated Rko and even at times the spirit squad but then he was injured and was out for some time.
He returned in 2007 and feuded with guys like King Booker and Umaga before winning the WWE Title and loosing it to Orton on the same night
He won the Raw EC match at No Way Out 2008 and hence along with John Cena fought Randy for WWE gold at Mania 24 but could not win however he won it next month and got drafted to SD
Their he successfully defended his title against Edge, Jeff Hardy, and Khali etc he finally lost it to Edge and involved himself in a feud with Kozlov
He then regained his WWE Title at No Way Out 2009 after winning the SD ER match and faced off against Randy for his WWE title at Mania 25 which he won only to loose to him at Backlash and took some time off
He returned in June and after many unsuccessful attempts to regain his WWE Title reformed DX along with Shawn Michaels and the two even went on to become the Unified Champs before loosing it to ShowMiz
After the split HHH got into a rivalry with Sheamus and successfully defeated him at this years' Mania.
Yeah that’s right, a huge Cena fan has not kept Cena at number one but well, there is a reason for it. The Champ John Cena makes his way at number two.
I am not going to talk about the story lines and all he has been part of for the last eight years, but simply tell you as to why is he up here, and that is because he has accomplished a lot.
He has gone from a rapper on SD to the face of the company and believe me that’s huge. Now many people might hate him, but the truth is that this guy has worked 24*7 and been on the road to promote the WWE visit fans and this kind off hard work deserves to be paid off.
Also, he has headlined PPV after PPV and “won” match after match which even I agree further strengthens the Super Cena gimmick which the people hate and I agree with it as well but that’s not entirely his fault.
It’s the WWE who has given him such a gimmick and hence what else can you expect from a Super Man. I agree that he is not the best in ring wrestler but then at the end of the day it counts as an accomplishment.
He has beaten the best in this business from The Big Show to Kurt Angle to HHH to Edge to Batista to Randy Orton to Shawn Michaels and on top of that he has won the US Title thrice and the Tag Team Title twice and also won the Royal Rumble in the year 2008 and is a 9 time World Champion i.e. a 7 time WWE Champion and also a 2 time WHC Champion.
I know that I am going to be criticized for whatever I say but I suppose that when you are a huge fanatic of something, you stick to it and don’t care much about the world says to you.
Here are a few honorary mentions of those guys who almost made the cut:
I am sorry if I have excluded a few but these were the only guys I could think of who missed out maybe due to less title reigns or big breaks from WWE etc..
And finally the best WWE Wrestler is indeed the Heart Break Kid: Shawn Michaels.
Many of you people are hopefully going to agree with me on this, and I know that many of you are not many might say that it’s HHH and in fact some might even say that it’s maybe Cena or Orton maybe, but believe me no one else deserves it more.
I know that Shawn was won just like one major WHC title in the WWE and even though I have considered the number of title reigns in preparing this list of mine but when it comes to talented in ring performers like him, it really does not matter.
I put him on the top because he is one man who I remember busting his ass in the WWE ring every week, wrestling without even caring about his body pulling of certain maneuvers at such crucial moments which would make the WWE fans go berserk but would take a lot off toll on his body.
He never cared about himself neither did he care about winning matches, he just wanted the crowd to have fun as I once saw on youtube. How on earth would you ever get a guy like that?
He had huge amount of energy with him and got this ability to carry matches on his shoulders no matter what. He never cared about winning titles.
We call him Mr. Wrestlemania even though he does not have a good track record at that event. This just goes to prove that whether win or loose it just won’t matter to him he just cares about putting up a performance to make the fans in go 'wow'.
So that was my list of top 10 WWE wrestlers. I will be ready to face the criticism you throw at me and I won’t mind because like I said when you are a huge fan of something you stick to it and don’t escape at the last moment. So please comment for sure.
