2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – NORTHWEST REGION – FIRST ROUND

         #30 Jackson State 54, #35 Lamar 51

    De’Suan Dixon scored 13 points to lead Jackson State to a hard-fought 54-51 win over Lamar in a SMCAA Northwest 1st round game.  Garrison Johnson added 12 for the Tigers could just manage 44% shooting on the night.
    The Cardinals were led by Justin Nabors who scored 13 points and Anthony Miles added 10 as Lamar shot only 38% from the field and did not make a 3 point basket (0-11).

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #30 Jackson State vs. #3 Texas

        #36 Alabama State 80, #29 Delaware State 72 (OVERTIME)

    Jeffery Middlebrooks hit a 3 pointer with 15 seconds left to send the game to overtime and Alabama State outscored Delaware State 14-6 in the extra session to win 80-72 in a 1st round Northwest contest.  It was Middlebrooks’s only points of the game and the Hornets were led by Tramaine Butler who scored 19 points on 7-13 shooting.Tramayne Moorer (14 points), Menji Mundadi (11) and A.J. Spencer (10) also scored in double figures for ASU.
    The Hornets were led by Frisco Sandidge, who had a game high 20 points and 7 rebounds.  Jay Threatt, Marcus Neal, Chad Wilson all scored 13 points for DSU.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND:  #36 Alabama State vs. #4 California

        #32 North Carolina-Asheville 79, #33 North Carolina-Greensboro 78 (OVERTIME)

    UNC-Asheville rallied from a 16 point halftime deficit to force overtime, then won the game in the extra session, 79-78 over UNC-Greensboro.  UNCA, who trailed 49-33 at the break, had 4 starters in double figures, led by Chris Stephenson with 18 points.  Matt Dickey scored 17 points, Sean Smith added 12, and J.P. Primm chipped in 11 for the Bulldogs.
    The Spartans were led by Ben Stywall, who scored a game high 23 points and 18 rebounds.  Kyle Randall added 15 and Mikko Koivisto had 10 for UNCG.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #32 North Carolina-Asheville vs. #1 Baylor

        #34 Western Illinois 57, #31 California-Irvine 42

    Ceola Clark had more than half of Western Illinois’s points as he scored 29 in leading the Leathernecks to a 57-42 victory over UC-Irvine in a Northwest 1st round game.  Clark shot 8 of 15 from the field and was a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line.  David Nurse was the next closest scorer for WIU with 9 points.
    The Anteaters were led by Michael Hunter with 11 points, but they struggled all night, connecting on just 28% of their shots from the field.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #34 Western Illinois vs. #2 Ohio State

        #27 Florida Atlantic 67, #38 Longwood 57

    Florida Atlantic took control of the game in the first half to take a 12 point lead into the break and went on to win their SMCAA Northwest 1st round game 67-57 over Longwood.  Raymond Taylor lead the Owls in the victory 19 points and 7 assists, while Greg Gantt added 15 points and 5 rebounds and Brett Royster chipped in 13 points and 5 boards.
    The Lancers were led by 16 points and 9 rebounds from Antwan Carter off the bench.  Dana Smith added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the loss.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #27 Florida Atlantic vs. #6 Notre Dame

        #39 Pennsylvania 70, #26 Arkansas State 68

    Darren Smith hit a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer to give Pennsylvania a stunning 70-68 comeback over Arkansas State in a 1st Northwest round classic. Smith, who had only 6 points in the game, had his shot nearly overshadow a superb performance by Zack Rosen, who torched the Red Wolves for 30 points and 8 rebounds.  Rosen shot 8 for 18, including five 3 pointers.  He also 9 for 9 from the free throw line.
    ASU was led by Trey Finn and his 22 points.  Brandon Reed and Martavius Adams each had 12 for the Red Wolves, who could not hold onto an 8 point halftime lead.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #39 Pennsylvania vs. #7 Illinois

        #37 Sacramento State 72, #28 Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 63

    Sacramento State used a key 10-2 second half run to take control of the game and went on to defeat Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 72-63 in a Northwest 1st round matchup.  John Dickson lead the way for the Hornets with 17 points.  Justin Eller added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the victory.
    The Mastodons, who trailed by only one at halftime, were led by Delivez Yearby and his 14 points.  IPFW also got 10 points from Ben Botts in the loss.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #37 Sacramento State vs. #5 Oklahoma State

        #21 Central Florida 72, #44 Southern 63

    Central Florida had 4 players score in double figures as they established a 7 point halftime lead and went on to defeat Southern 72-63 in a SMCAA Northwest 1st round game.  A.J. Rompza led the way with 17 points, while A.J. Tyler added 15, Marcus Jordan scored 12, and Taylor Young chipped in 10 for the Knights.
     Douglas Scott led the Jaguars with 15 points, but SU shot just 36% from three point range and 61% from the free throw line.

        NORTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #21 Central Florida vs. #12 Charlotte
