2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – NORTH REGION – FIRST ROUND

       #23 Eastern Illinois 64, #42 North Carolina Central 54

    Jeremy Granger scored 14 points and Tyler Laser added 13 as Eastern Illinois defeated North Carolina Central 64-54 in a SMCAA North 1st round game.  James Hollowell added 11 as the Panthers were never threatened.
    C.J. Wilkerson led the Eagles with 12 points and 6 rebounds, but NCCU could hit just 35% from the field and were out rebounded by 13.

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #23 Eastern Illinois vs. #10 Northeastern

        #24 Indiana 65, #41 Utah Valley State 52

    Verdell Jones III and Christian Watford scored 12 points apiece and Indiana defeated Utah Valley State 65-52 in a 1st round North matchup.  Devan Dumes added 10 off the bench for the Hoosiers, who shot 85% from the free throw line on the night.
    The Wolverines were led by Jourdain Scoubes with 12 points, but UVSU could only manage 37% shooting on the night.

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #24 Indiana vs. #9 Cincinnati

        #22 St. Peter’s 58, #43 Tennessee-Martin 46

    St. Peter’s put on a defensive clinic, holding Tennessee-Martin to 28% shooting and out rebounding them by 9, to win 58-46 in a 1st round North game.  The Peacocks were led by Ryan Bacon with 13 points.  Nick Leon added 12 for St. Peter’s and Steven Samuels chipped in 10.
    The Skyhawks had no score in double figures and were led by Benzor Simmons and Cataurius Taylor who had 8 points apiece.

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #22 St. Peter’s vs. #11 Northwestern

        #33 North Florida 70, #32 Northern Illinois 67

    North Florida held off a furious Northern Illinois rally to hang on and win 70-67 in a SMCAA North 1st round contest.  The Ospreys, who had built a 13 point second half lead watched in dwindle to 2 with under a minute remaining.  UNF was able to hold on however for the victory.  The Ospreys were led by Andy Diaz with 14 points on 7 of 12 shooting.
    NIU got 22 points from Xavier Silas and 13 points from Sean Kowal, but only shot 56% from the line as a team (9-16).

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND:  #33 North Florida vs. #1 Kansas

        #36 Brown 63, #29 Manhattan 61

    Brown built a 7 point late second half lead and held on for a 63-61 win over Manhattan in a 1st round North matchup.  The Bears were led by Peter Sullivan, who scored 17 points as Brown won the game at the free throw line going 18 for 20 for the game.  Sullivan went 9 for 10 from the stripe.
    The Jaspers got 22 points from Rico Pickett, but he was the only Manhattan player in double figures.

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #36 Brown vs. #4 Texas-El Paso

        #34 Bethune-Cookman 52, #31 South Carolina State 50

    Bethune-Cookman got 14 points from Alexander Starling and 10 from C.J. Reed in leading the Wildcats to a 52-50 win over South Carolina State in a North 1st round contest.  BCC won the game despite shooting only 31% from the field and 58% from the line.
    The Bulldogs were led by Arsenio Williams and his 12 points and Darnell Porter, who added 11.  SCSU struggled from the field as well, hitting only 17 of 51 shots on the night.

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #34 Bethune-Cookman vs. #2 Xavier

        #35 Holy Cross 69, #30 Santa Clara 65

    Holy Cross turned a 4 point halftime deficit into a 4 point victory in the second half as they defeated Santa Clara 69-65 in a 1st round North game.  Andrew Beinert led the Crusaders with 19 points while R.J. Evans added 12 and Eric Meister chipped in 10 in the victory.
    Marc Trasolini led the Broncos with 12 points for the game and Niyi Harrison added 10, but it was not enough as SCU shot only 41% from the field.

        NORTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #35 Holy Cross vs. #3 Georgetown
