2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – SOUTHEAST REGION – FIRST ROUND

         #25 Bowling Green 65, #40 Houston Baptist 60

    Bowling Green outscored Houston Baptist 10-2 over a crucial 2:30 span in the second half to come from behind and defeat the Huskies, 65-60 in a SMCAA Southeast 1st round contest.  Trailing 56-55 with 4:34 remaining, the Falcons got 4 points from Dee Brown (16 points), and 3 pointers from Scott Thomas and Joe Jakubowski to take a 65-58 lead with just under 2 minutes left.
    HBU was led by 14 points apiece from Andrew Gonzalez and Mario Flaherty.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #25 Bowling Green vs. #8 Wichita State

        #27 Southeastern Louisiana 70, #38 South Carolina-Upstate 69

    Southeastern Louisiana got two huge offensive rebounds and kill the clock in a 70-69 1st round thriller over South Carolina-Upstate, holding the Spartans without a point over the last 1:41.  After Cedric Koffi hit a 3 pointer to cut the lead to one, the Lions got the rebounds from Jason Marks and Stephen Burches to drain the clock down to 27 seconds remaining.  Nick Schneiders missed badly on Upstate’s final possession to give SE LA the win.
    The Lions were led by Patrick Sullivan’s 15 and Brandon Fortenberry’s 11.  The Spartans were by Josh Chavis, who had a game high 16 points.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #27 Southeastern Louisiana vs. #6 Minnesota

        #37 Colgate 70, #28 South Alabama 59

    Colgate had a crucial 15-4 run in the second half to take control of the game and defeat South Alabama 70-59 in a Southeast 1st round game.  Leading 43-39 with just under 15 minutes remaining, the Red Raiders got 6 of Yaw Gyawu’s 14 points to key the run.  Ben Jonson led Colgate with 19 and Anthony Hill chipped in 11 including 3 three pointers.
    The Jaguars were led by 17 points from Allyn Cooks, but could only manage 50% from the free throw line.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #37 Colgate vs. #5 Georgia Tech

        #39 Florida International 70, #26 California State-Fullerton 66

    Down by as many as 13 in the second half, Florida International stormed back with a furious rally to come from behind and defeat Cal State-Fullerton 70-66 in a 1st round Southeast contest.  Trailing 43-30 with just under 16 minutes remaining, the Golden Panthers went on a 29-9 run over the next 11 minutes to take a 59-52 lead.  FIU was led by Antoine Watson with 16 points, Marvin Roberts with 15, and Phil Gary with 12.
    The Titans got 17 points from Jacques Streeter and 11 from Jer’Vaughn Johnson, but could not hold a 35-24 halftime lead.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #39 Florida International vs. #7 Siena
 
        #24 Lipscomb 86, #41 Virginia Military Institute 76

    Adnan Hodzic led the way with 22 points as Lipscomb built a 10 point halftime lead and went on the defeat Virginia Military Institute 86-76 in a SMCAA Southeast 1st round contest.  The Bison had 3 other players in double figures as Josh Slater, Jordan Burgason, and Michael Teller each scored 16 apiece to help in the win.
    The Keydets were led by Austin Kenon who had 26 points on 8 of 16 shooting, including five 3 pointers.  Keith Gabriel (17 points), Stan Okoye (12), and Adam Lonon (10) also scored in double figures, but VMI took 34 three point attempts and was only able to connect on 11 of them.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #24 Lipscomb vs. #9 Texas Tech

        #22 Eastern Kentucky 60, #43 Marist 53

    Papa Oppong led Eastern Kentucky as the Colonels were able to defeat a very game Marist squad, 60-53, in a 1st round Southeast game.  Oppong, who scored 14 points, got help from Justin Stommes with 13 points and Josh Taylor added 10 points for EKU.
    Rob Johnson and Sam Prescott had 10 points apiece for Marist, who trailed by 13 at halftime, and was unable to make up the difference in the second half.

        SOUTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #22 Eastern Kentucky vs. #11 Boston College

        #23 Boise State 76, #42 Dartmouth 49

    Boise State broke open a close game at halftime and ended up shooting 52% as a team in a 76-49 thrashing of Dartmouth in a Southeast 1st round match-up.  The Broncos had four players in double figures led by Ike Okoye with 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Kurt Cunningham (12 points), La’Shard Anderson (11 points), and Daequon Montreal (10 points) contributed to the win.
    The Big Green, trailed only 32-30 at halftime, could only muster 19 points after the break.  They had no one in double figures and were led by David Rufful, who had 8 points.
