Ā Ā Ā  Youngstown State got 22 points from DeAndre Mays to lead the Penguins to a 68-55 victory over Binghamton in a SMCAA South 1st round game.Ā  Mays, who shot 7-15 from the field, was joined in double figures by Vytas Sulskis, who has 12 points.Ā  YSU took care of business at charity stripe, shooting 20-25.
Ā Ā Ā  The Bearkats, who were led by 15 points from Dylan Talley, trailed only 34-32 at halftime, but let the game slip away in the second half.

Ā Ā Ā  Furman held off a furious Yale comeback and hung on for a 65-61 1st round South victory.Ā  After leading 37-25 at halftime, the Paladins let the Bulldogs cut the lead to two on a Jordan Gibson free throw, but Gibson clanked a jumper with 7 seconds left and Justin Dehm hit two free throws with 3 seconds left to secure the victory.Ā  Amu Saaka led Furman with 20 points, and the Paladins were great from the free throw line, hitting 19-22 in the game.
Ā Ā Ā  The Bulldogs were led by Alex Zampier’s 19 points, but could only get to the free throw line 13 times in the game, hitting seven of them.

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  SOUTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #31 Furman vs. #2 Tennessee

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  #36 Columbia 71, #29 Lafayette 67

Ā Ā Ā  Columbia held off a late charge from Lafayette and upset the #29 seed 71-67 in a Southeast 1st round tilt.Ā  The Lions, who were led by Noruwa Agho’s 15 points and 10 rebounds, saw their lead shrink to one after Jared Mintz (16 points for the Leopards) hit a 18 foot jumper with 16 seconds left. But two free throws from Kevin Bulger pushed to lead to three. Ryan Willen (17 points for Lafayette) front rimmed a straight away 3 pointer with 7 seconds left and Agho hit 1 of 2 to seal the victory.
Ā Ā Ā  The Lions also got 11 points from Brian Grimes and 10 from Niko Scott in the upset.

Ā Ā Ā  Sacred Heart hung on after a furious last minute rally by Air Force to escape with aĀ  68-66 1st round South thriller.Ā  Leading 66-58 with 1:10 remaining, two free throws and a 3 pointer by Evan Washington cut the Pioneer lead to one with 14 seconds left.Ā  After Mehmet Sahan hit one of two free throws, Michael Lyons (10 points for AFA) committed a charge on the final play of the game to give the win to SHU.
Ā Ā Ā  The Pioneers had four players in double figures led by 14 from Chauncey Hardy.Ā  Air Force was led by Tom Fow’s 14 points on 6-10 shooting.

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  SOUTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #35 Sacred Heart vs. #3 Maryland

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  #25 Central Michigan 72, #40 Southeast Missouri State 66

Ā Ā Ā  Robbie Harman had 19 points to lead four Chippewas in double figures as Central Michigan defeated Southeast Missouri State 72-66 in a SMCAA South 1st round matchup.Ā  Jordan Bitzer added 13 points while Jalin Thomas chipped in 11 points and Chris Kellerman contributed 10 points off the bench for CMU.
Ā Ā Ā  The Redhawks got 14 points from Cameron Butler, 13 points from Anthony Allison, and 12 points from LaMont Russell, but could not overcome shooting 21% from 3 point range in the game.

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  SOUTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #25 Central Michigan vs. #8 Connecticut

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  #26 Canisius 73, #39 North Carolina A&T 69

Ā Ā Ā  Frank Turner, Julius Coles, and Elton Frazier combined for 58 of Canisius’s 73 points and led the Golden Griffins to a 73-69 victory over North Carolina A&T in a 1st round South contest.Ā  Turner (28 points) added 5 assists, while Coles (17 points) and Frazier (17 points) each had a double-double with 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
Ā Ā Ā  The Aggies were led by Robert Johnson and his 15 points, while Dwane Joshua (13), James Porter (13), and Tavarus Alston (10) also scored in double figures for NC A&T.Ā  They could not overcome shooting just 9 for 27 from 3 point range, however.

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  SOUTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #26 Canisius vs. #7 Murray State

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  #27 South Dakota 72, #38 St. Francis (Pa) 60

Ā Ā Ā  Jake Thomas led South Dakota with 18 points as the Coyotes shot 22 of 27 (82%) from the free throw line to secure a 72-60 victory over St. Francis (Pa) in a South 1st round contest.Ā  Tyler Cain added 13 points and 13 rebounds while Kendall Cutler added 12 points in the victory.
Ā Ā Ā  The Red Flash were led by Umar Shannon’s 10 points off the bench and could only manage to shoot 37% (20-54) from the field for the game.

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  SOUTH REGION 2ND ROUND: #27 South Dakota vs. #6 Mississippi

Ā Ā Ā  Ā Ā Ā  #28 South Dakota State 83, #37 Pepperdine 64

Ā Ā Ā  South Dakota State had 3 players in double figures and took control of the game in the second half to cruise to a 83-64 win over Pepperdine in a 1st round South game.Ā  Garrett Callahan led the Jackrabbits with 14 points while Clint Sargent added 12 points and Nate Wolters contributed 11 points off the bench.
Ā Ā Ā  The Waves were led by Keion Bell, who had 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Mychel Thompson added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the loss.
