Mets Lose to Rockies in Series Opener Drop to 2-5
Flushing Baseball DailyApr 13, 2010
The Mets needed a win today if for no other reason than to start feeling good about something, but they couldnโt get one as starting pitcher John Maine gave up eight run in just three innings. Even in the high mountains of Denver that was too much for the Mets offense to overcome as they lost 11-3.
Notes
- Maineโs velocity was down and his control non-existent. His line: 3IP, 7H, 8ER, 3BB, 4K, 1HR
- The bullpen continued to pitch well their line: 5IP, 3H, 3ER, 6BB, 7K. Not bad considering Fernando Nieve gave up all three of those run in a third of an inning, Raul Valdes, Jenrry Mejia, and Hisanori Takahashi pitched 4.2 shutout innings.
- David Wright reached base every time up going 2-for-2 with a home run and a pair of walks.
- Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
- Jason Bay went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
- Jeff Francoeur went 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Thoughts
- As much as people are upset with him right now, Iโm not not ready to give up on him yet. He is recovering from shoulder surgery so a full recovery is not guaranteed. His velocity was down, but only slightly sitting at 89-90. He should be able to get batters out with that, Iโll give him a pass this time only Iโll give him a pass this week because he was pitching in Coors Field.
- The offense was disappointing today, but they were in an 8-0 hole early. Luis Castillo got thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double when baserunners were dire. To make things worse the next batter, Wright, homered. There just arenโt enough people contributing each night.
- Once a few hitters start to get hot the Mets will start to get hot. Fans have been depressed, but itโs too early to give up. This team is not this bad.
Line of the Night
- The bottom of the Mets lineup, the 6, 7, 8, 9 hitters: 2-for-15, 0BB.
Up Next
- The Mets really need to start winning series. Wins in these next two games could go a long way right here.
