2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – NORTHEAST REGION – FIRST ROUND

         #37 Prairie View A&M 64, #28 Loyola-Maryland 60

    Prairie View made a 12-point halftime lead stick through the second half as they withstood run after run for Loyola (MD) in a SMCAA Northeast 1st Round game.  Leading 32-20 at the break, the Panthers allowed the Greyhounds to close within 2 points on six occasions, but Loyola could not get over the hump.  Darnell Hugee lead Prairie View with 19 points and he had help from Dorian McDaniel (11pts).
    Loyola was led by Brett Harvey (16 pts) and Shane Walker (11 pts), but the Greyhounds shot just 40% from the field.

        NORTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #37 Prairie View A&M vs. #5 Richmond

        #25 Austin Peay 76, #40 Centenary 66

    Austin Peay got 25 from Anthony Campbell and took control in the second half to pull away from Centenary in a 1st round Northeast game.  The game was tied at 50 all with 10 minutes remaining, but the Governors outscored the Gentlemen 26-16 to secure the win.  Wesley Channels and John Fraley had 13 points each for Austin Peay, who shot 49% from the field and went 22-27 from the free throw line.
    Pedro Maciel lead Centenary with 13 points as the Gentlemen 40% from the field and only 7 for 25 from 3-point range.

        NORTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #25 Austin Peay vs. #8 Miami (Fla.)

        #26 Montana State 70, #39 St. Francis (NY) 45

    Montana State played outstanding defense holding St. Francis (NY) to 30% shooting in cruising to a 70-45 victory in a Northeast 1st Round game.  The Bobcats were led by 18 points and 9 rebounds from Bobby Howard.  Erik Rush added 14 and Branden Johnson added 10 for MSU.
    Akeem Bennett was the only Terrier to reach double figures with 10 points.

        NORTHEAST REGION 2ND ROUND:  #26 Montana State vs. #7 Rhode Island

        #27 Portland State 70, #38 Central Connecticut State 54

    Portland State had 4 players in double figures and rode 53% shooting to a comfortable 70-54 win over Central Connecticut State in 1st Round Northeast game.  Paul Guede led the Vikings with 14 points as they opened up a 41-26 halftime lead and were never threatened in the 2nd half.  Dominic Waters (13 pts), Melvin Jones (12 pts), and Jamie Jones (11 pts) added to the win.
    CCSU was lead by Markeys Deans’ 14 pts and 11 points from Shemik Thompson.
