Ā Ā Ā Samford had 4 players score in double figures as withstood a North Dakota State rally to win their 1st Round SMCAA East Region game.Ā Josh Davis (13 pts), Trey Montgomery, Bryan Friday, and Andy King (all with 11 pts apiece), had staked the Bulldogs to a 34-30 halftime lead and the Bison got as close as 2 at 41-39 with 15:32 left.
Ā Ā Ā But an 8-0 run by Samford was key to run the lead to 10 at 49-39 with 13:36 left and the Bison could get no close than three the rest of the way.Ā Eric Carlson lead North Dakota State with 17 points in the losing effort.

Ā Ā Ā UNC-Wlimington used a key 14-4 run to open the second half to spur them on in the 1st Round win over the Phoenix.Ā Leading 42-36 at halftime, Chad Tomko scored 9 of his game high 20 points to extend the Seahawks lead to 56-40 with 15:11 left.Ā John Fields had 13 pts and Ahmad Grant had 10 while Keith Rendleman pulled down 16 rebounds.
Ā Ā Ā Elon was lead Drew Spradlinās 15 points and Chris Longās 12 points, but the Phoenix could not overcome 32% shooting as a team.
Ā Ā Ā EAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #30 North Carolina-Wilmington vs. #3 Northern Iowa
Ā Ā Ā #34 Delaware 66, #31 Cal Poly SLO 60
Ā Ā Ā Delaware had 3 players combine for 46 of their 66 points as the Blue Hens came back to defeat the Mustangs in a 1st round East matchup.Ā Jawan Carter (17 pts), D.J. Boney (17 pts), and Alphonso Dawson (12 pts) helped Delaware turn a 4 point deficit into a 5 point lead in a 2:30 span in the 2nd half.Ā Cal Poly did close to within 2 with 46 seconds left by Jordan Lewis, but the Mustangs could not get any closer.
Ā Ā Ā Lorenzo Keeler (22 pts) and Shawn Lewis (12 pts) lead the way for Cal Poly who shot just 7-15 (47%) from the free-throw line.
Ā Ā Ā EAST REGION 2ND ROUND: #34 Delaware vs. #2 Villanova
Ā Ā Ā #36 Eastern Washington 73, #29 Texas State 71
Ā Ā Ā Eastern Washington almost let a 10 point second half lead, but managed to hang on to a 73-71 1st Round East Region win.Ā Abebe Demissie scored 5 of his 13 points in a 12-2 run to put the Eagles up 47-37 with 12:48 to go, but Texas State fought back to tie the game with 5:32 left.
Ā Ā Ā They could not take the lead however as EWU got 5 points from Jeffrey Forbes (14 pts) to take a lead they would not relinquish.Ā Glen Dean added 11 and Mark Dunn added 10 for the Eagles.
Ā Ā Ā The Bobcats got 14 points from Cameron Johnson and 13 from John Bowman in a game that featured 46 fouls and 60 free throw attempts.
