Well it’s been over for a little while now but the LSU Spring Game is in the books, and I know that we can’t read into it to much but there is a lot of hope down in the bayou this year. Also there are a lot of questions that arose as well. Let me start off with the biggest one, who will be the starting Quarterback for the Tigers? Now I am no Les Miles but I do honestly believe that it will be Jefferson. Now his lack luster performance was he went 8-23 and 94 yards wasn’t really what people wanted to see. But that is not my main concern; it’s his pocket presence that worries me. The stat you don’t see a whole lot is that he was sacked 4 times in this game. We know he can play and play well we have all seen that, but last year was a showing that he has poor recognition of the rush and blitz's coming at him. He threw 0 picks and 0 touchdowns so not a banner day.

On to the other QB in question Jarrett Lee. Lee went 10-20 for 114 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 pick. Now that pick is what brings in the questions, does he have the ability to read coverage’s? Seeing that was a snap back when he was the starter and to me I don’t want it happing again. Better day kind of in my opinion but not much. The other two that played were Garrett and McCartney combined for 2-5 and 19 yards no TD's and no picks. So that is the real question.

Now on to the Running backs. Let me say that Ridley is going to be a tremendous talent and a huge filler in that hole that Scott, Holiday and Williams left. Ridely had 13 carries for 104 yards and 1 touchdown, averaging 8.0 yards a carry with a long run of 25 yards. The other half of this is Michael Ford who had 19 carries for 140 yards for an average of 7.3 yards a carry and a long of 26 yards. In my opinion very impressive, I would like to see the Tigers get back to running the ball again this season. I know we have the Fullbacks and we have seen the Running backs in action. I for one am excited about that.

But we all know that the Offensive Line is needed. I think again we have one. With returners like Herbert, Barksdale and Dworaczyk. Add in Blackwell which most saw play in the game against UGA last season when Hitt got hurt and a great Offensive Lineman in my opinion Alex Hurst. Hurst has big shoes to fill replacing Ciron Black but standing 6-6 and weighing in at 324 lbs and being as athletic as he is I feel he is a great pick for the job. I am going on record now saying that all 5 linemen this year will be playing on Sundays at the next level. Very excited about this group.

Wide Receivers and Tight ends are going to be another solid group as well. The entire group of players including Rueben Randle, Terrence Toliver, Chris Tolliver, DeAngelo Peterson, Mitch Joseph, Jordan Newell and Tyler Edwards. All caught a total of 20 balls for 227 yards and 1 touchdown. The stand outs were Peterson with 2 catches for 39 yards his long being 30 yards, and Toliver who had 2 catches for 15 yards his long was 11 yards. Let’s not also forget that C.Tolliver had 2 balls caught for 14 yards and 1 touchdown. To me a very solid group of Receivers.

Now to the star of the show in a lot of peoples eyes Russell Shepard. He played a lot this game and got a lot of touches. He had 12 touches for 117 yards. He carried the ball 8 times for 66 yards and caught 4 balls for 51 yards. He would have had more but dropped a huge pass. We all know that he is being compared to Percy Havrin from Florida, but I didn’t see a whole lot to be impressed with last season. I think he needs a little more weight if he is going to be carrying the ball in the SEC, but I do agree with the move to Wide Receiver. I believe that we will see him more this season all over the field and will become a real "Tazer". Tremendous talent and a huge pick up for LSU. Just needs to find his place in this offense. I have huge hopes for him this season.

I do think that people are sleeping on the Tigers this year and as a die hard fan I would love to see a SEC Title and a BCS bowl game this year. I think we have the Offense do it and also the drive. I will be doing another article on the Defense next. Thank you for ready this and I am always up to listen to other opinions and suggestions. Geaux Tigers!
