Anderson "The Spider" Silva Plays With His Food and Loses a Fan
Anderson "The Spider" Silva remains undefeated in the UFC 11-0 and still holds his UFC Middleweight belt, he is the reason I became an Mixed Martial Arts fan but he lost me as a fan today.
I defending Silva through the Cote and Leites bouts, pointing to the fact that neither fighter ever came after Silva, seemed to want nothing to do with him.
But now, after the Maia bout I'm now convinced while Silva is a fantastic counter-striker, he either can not or does not want to create his own offense.

Demian Maia could not get a takedown and could not strike with Silva. His face was bloodied and his left eye had swollen shut, but in the last two rounds Maia decided to go at Silva and the consequences be damned.
Silva was in danger of actually loosing the late rounds simply based on Maia was controlling the Octagon. Silva was actually running laps of the Octagon.
Maia showed great guts in this fight, even though he was totally outclassed by Silva on the feet and was unable to get the fight on the ground he stood with Silva.
As the fight fight progressed and Maia was more and more damaged he starting going right into the pain, looking to land some shots. I was very impressed with Maia tenacity in this fight.
Silva did show fantastic take down defense, I think it is safe to say that take down defense is no longer a weakness for Silva. Silva is still one of the elite fighters in MMA, he is still fantastic.
I'm not upset that this fight was boring or that there was not a finish I wanted.
Its a sport and winning is what counts and I will certainly be watching the next time Silva fights, I just will be rooting against him for the first time as an MMA fan.
