FIFA World Cup Targeted by Terrorist Group
The 2010 FIFA World Cup has been specifically targeted by an Algerian terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda.Ā
A jihadi online magazine has published a terrifying statement zeroing in on the USA-England match:
"How amazing could the match between the United States and England be if, during a live broadcast with a stadium packed with spectators, the sound of an explosion rumbles through the stands, the whole stadium is turned upside down, and the number of deadĀ bodiesĀ are in the dozens and hundreds, God willing."Ā
The faction says it plans to use explosives that are impossible to detect by current security forces. Five countries were specifically targeted: the USA, England, France, Italy, and Germany.
According to the group, the reason these countries were targeted is because they are supposedly on a Zionist crusade against Islam.
In response to these terrorist threats, World Cup organizers are on a heightened alert, and some South Africans are now even being trained to detect nuclear weapons.Ā
British anti-terror expert Paul Wilkinson states, "It is unusual, to say the least, for al-Qaeda and affiliate organisations to give advance notice of their precise target and the tactic they will use.Ā However, the authorities can't afford to ignore it, because people reading this message will include militants who might think this is something they want to do.Ā
"The deliberate pinpointing of this match highlights the hatred al-Qaeda has for our country and the United States."
Wilkinson adds that some of these threats may just be fakes, but they should always be taken with complete seriousness. No one really knows whether an attack could happen or not.Ā
