Five Wins in Five Games Are a Must for Arsenal

Jamrock RoverApr 8, 2010

The Champions league is a thing of the past for Arsenal this season as it is for all English teams after "Manure's" exit at the hands of Bayern Munich last night. While we were missing five of our most important players their excuses would seem to be that Rooney played with a knock and Bayern were "typically German" in hounding the referee to get Rafael sent off. They didn't have to deal with the best player in the world at the moment and they had a 3-0 lead before half time, but they still managed to end up going out at the same stage as Arsenal.

I won't spend the rest of this blog gloating about them though as it's meant to be all about Arsenal and their fortunes and misfortunes. I will say though that "Manure" face a tough trip to Blackburn on Sunday and with Chelsea at home to Bolton next Tuesday they could find themselves four or five points off the pace with five games left to go. That would leave us needing to beat the Spuds to move into second place on Wednesday of next week and it would also be St. Totteringham's day if we won. The chances of us catching Chelsea are still slim but the players have been making all the right noises about trying to win the league.

In the week that the players have to recover from their exertions against Barcelona we can hope that both Song and Campbell will have recovered sufficiently to be available to play against the Spuds as our resources are stretched pretty far at the moment. If you were to pick a team from all the players available to us at the moment both of them would be included, so in my opinion it's fairly important that they do recover. There is also the slight possibility of a certain RVP being on the bench in that game as it more or less fits in with the timescale that the boss gave us on March 25th. I won't be holding my breath about that one, but it would be a great boost for the fans and players alike to see him in the squad again.

A very obvious omission from the squad last Tuesday night was Vela and if the reports circulating are to be believed it was because he had lost his passport. I would be shocked if that was the case, but then again if it wasn't what does it say about his future at the club if he couldn't make an 18 man squad for that trip to Barcelona considering all the players that were injured. I suppose there's the possibility that he was injured yet again, but somehow I doubt that.

We face the prospect of some quiet times on Arsenal news from now until the end of the season as Wednesday's trip to the Spuds is our last midweek game and after that we will be playing only once a week. With only five games left the season is drawing to a close very quickly and with a World Cup to come the world of Arsenal related news will be a very empty one indeed. Throughout the World Cup I'll try to keep things updated on the performances of our players and the countries they are playing for.

I'll also be on the lookout for a Fantasy World Cup competition to run just to keep the interest up as this season's Fantasy Premier League competition has gone quite well. I will of course report on any transfers in and out of the club and post the Premier league fixtures when they come out. If anything at all Arsenal related happens you can be sure I'll give it some coverage as we wait for the new season to begin in August.

From here until the end of the season Arsenal's task is a very simple one and that is to get five wins out of five games in the Premier league and hope that two teams can do us a favour against Chelsea and one team against "Manure". It may seem like an unlikely scenario and we can only take it one game at a time but I won't be giving up all hope quite yet until we fail to win one of those games. I can only hope that it doesn't come at the place where we have clinchedĀ  a league title twice before, White Hart Lane. That would be a bitter blow to take, so it's up to the players to cheer the fans up by making sure it doesn't happen. That's it for today.

Here's an excellent goal from Henry against the Spuds.

See You Tomorrow.
