A.J. MartelliJul 13, 2008

The day after the passing of great New York Yankee fan-favorite Bobby Murcer, the Bombers lost the final game of a three game set against the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-1.

The Yankees sent Andy Pettitte to the mound today. Pettitte tossed six innings, gave up four runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out six.

Toronto started A.J. Burnett, who was pitching on three days' rest for only the second time in his career. Burnett dominated, going 8.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits, he walked one and fanned eight.

The Jays scored all four of their runs on the bottom of the second inning. Scott Rolen hit an RBI single to score Kevin Mench, and Marco Scutaro followed up with a three-run homer to give the Jays a 4-0 edge after two innings of play.

The Yankees couldn't get anything going as Burnett cruised into the ninth inning. In the ninth, Burnett gave up a solo homer to Jason Giambi, his 19th of the year, which ties him with Alex Rodriguez for the Yankees' team lead.

With a 4-1 lead in the ninth, closer B.J. Ryan was called into the game. Ryan was able to get Robinson Cano to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

With the win, Burnett moves up to 10-8 on the campaign. The long ball to Giambi was his only blemish on the afternoon.

Pettite lost the game, and falls to 10-7 on the year.

Ryan notched his 18th save of the year.

After 95 games, the New York Yankees find themselves at 50-45 at the All-Star break.

After the Home Run Derby on Monday night in which no Yankees will be participating in, the All-Star game takes place at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night at 8:00 ET.

The American League All-Star team will square off against the National League All-Star team. Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians will start for the American League. Ben Sheets of the Milwaukee Brewers will start for the National League

The Yankees will be represented at their home field Tuesday night by shortstop Derek Jeter, third baseman Alex Rodriguez, and closer Mariano Rivera.

The Yankees' regular season schedule resumes Friday night at home against the Oakland Athletics.
