World Football: Marcos Senna opens up to ESPN Brasil
In a seemingly relaxed mood, Brazilian born, Euro Cup winner for Spain, Marcos Senna, gave a collective interview to ESPN Brasil.
Unlike interviews with some of the bigger stars like Kaka or Ronaldinho, Marcos seemed unrehearsed and very candid in his responses.
Perhaps due to his being unaccustomed to the spotlight he gave us a very rare look inside the mind of a player who plays outside of his homeland. Indeed in Marcos's case he has even become a citizen of the other country, in theory at least.
When asked about the opponents in the final verses Germany he seemed little impressed. Asked specifically about Ballack he described the German midfielder as a "good" player but hyped up way beyond his actual level. "He, Ballack, can control the ball and can play etc. at a good level."
Asked what the strategy against Germany was he responded that all we had to do was touch the ball, "it gets on their nerves" at some given moment they started to attack the ball and we scored.
Marcos did say that Germany started off the match slightly better but after Spain found their touching rhythm the rest was easy.
Marcos was asked to state the one worst thing and best thing about Brazil and Spain. He said the best thing about Spain was being able to ply his trade and the worst was the food from back home he could not always get.
The best thing about Brazil was the country itself and all his family and the worst was that Brazil needed to improve in many areas which he did not go on to specify noting that it was not his area.
When asked if he would continue living in Europe his answer was an emphatic "no way. I intend to retire at home in Brazil. I've already started construction on my new house. My wife can't stand the idea of living there either."
So in conclusion we can gather that this Villarreal player and member of the Spanish national squad still considers both sides as not much more than jobs, misses home cooked meals and dreams of some day retiring back in his homeland, Brazil.
This could be a bit disappointing for many fans but thanks to Marcos for being honest enough to openly talk about these things and allowing us to get a rare glimpse inside the mind of a player based abroad.
