Harry Redknapp and Tottenham Need To Get in Shape As Sunderland Win 3-1
I'll try to make this short.
I'm embarrassed.
Here I am thinking Darren Bent is nothing but a mere mortal, not fully fitted with any real functioning talent and a purchase better left unspent for any club; yet he does it again. Scoring two but not any with real class, of course.
Lee Mason was handing out penalties like the New Deal handed out Social Security. As far as I'm concerned, Gomes was man of the match. Two phenomenal saves from Bent's last TWO penalties kept Tottenham in the game.
Besides 'the Octopus' coming up big for us, we got hammered. Sunderland looked hungry; they were first to every loose ball and very sharp in their passing. Frazier Campbell (another of several ex-Spurs) looked to head the Black Cats attack going forward, and he was a constant threat down the right forcing Assou-Ekotto off at the interval.
Here is my biggest disappointment.
With six games to go, one would think Harry would have an idea of who to play. Despite the acknowledged injuries to the likes of Dawson, King, Lennon, and Tom Huddlestone, Harry started a decent side. Though Kaboul is still not a natural CB I expected a big night from him and was sorely let down.
As for my hope entrusted in Kyle Walker...I'd rather not comment on the subject now (for fear he may read this one day). The team looked lost, a scrambled mash of class players running east to west as opposed to north and south. Harry gave the lads no definite formation this afternoon and it showed quite obviously. It's as if they were playing a 4-6-0!!!
With Defoe back, assuming the ankle knock he picked up isn't severe, he is an immediate pick. Hopefully midweek against Portsmouth Daws will be back in contention and we can push through to the final.
Though at this point, without the Champions League, as else seems rather...well, futile.
Oh and as far as Zenden's goal is concerned, I'd rather never see anyone score again, take a bow you blond bowl cut wonder.
