Shawn Marion has been one of the more underrated players in the NBA for the past few years. His numbers and production have ranked up there with all the stars of the league.
Last season the Heat traded Shaq for Marion in a blockbuster deal, and after drafting Michael Beasley, Marion could be traded once again.
Riley wants to keep Marion so he can use his large expiring contract at seasons end, but Marion wants to go to a contender and sign a contract extension, and that is not with Miami.
The Heat have been drawing interests from the Lakers, Warriors, and Clippers.
The Lakers would be a nice fit for Marion. They need a defensive player, and Marion is one of the best. He can be able to run with Kobe and will be a nice asset to the triangle.
The Lakers would have been rumored to already offer Lamar Odom and Chris Mihm. I see this trade being fair for the Heat. In return they get Odom's large expiring contract and a solid center, in which they need, with Mihm.
The Warriors would be able to offer Al Harrington's expiring contract for Marion, who would fit right in with the running system of Don Nelson.
Monta Ellis recently expressed interest in wanting to play in Miami. A possibility is sign and trade deal with Ellis and Harrington for Marion, Marcus Banks, and a first round pick.
For the Heat, they get the point guard Riley wants, who can run and set up Dwayne Wade.
If Ellis wants to leave, they would sign and trade to get Marion, who can bring in a defensive attitude for the Warriors.
The Warriors are going to trying to keep Ellis, but Ellis has the attitude that he wants to move to another team. In that case, they would have a lot of extra cap space to sign a Emeka Okafor or a Josh Smith. After losing Baron Davis, they got in trouble.
The Clippers, who also have a lot of cap space, are interested in Marion. They want a fast paced line up with Davis, Eric Gordon, Marion, and Al Thornton.
A trade that possibly could work is if the Clippers send off a first round pick for Marion.
Since the Heat got Beasley, who will most likely be playing small forward, Marion has been rumored to being on the move.
The most likely scenario is Marion ending up with the Warriors if Ellis wants to go to Miami.
Any team can pick up free agents, but trades can make an even bigger difference. Just ask the Boston Celtics.

LET'S GO HEAT! PULL THE TRIGGER! ELLIS AND HARRINGTON FOR MARION, BANKS AND A FIRST ROUND PICK! THIS WOULD EQUAL INSTANT PLAYOFFS AND WITH A HEALTHY D WADE, POSSIBLY ANOTHER TITLE! HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!

Riley knows what he'd be getting from the Lakers in Odom - that is why he wouldn't pull the trigger on that trade since they need a big-time #2 to play alongside D-Wade and Odom isn't it. Odom's game fits a team that has scorers around him, such as the Lakers where he can be a facilitator and do what he does best and make sure things are running well while occasionally slashing to the basket and getting rebounds on the defensive end. However the most attractive thing about Odom is his expiring contract and the Heat would just love to have $17-mil (since Mihm's also is expiring at $2.5 mil I believe) and I'm sure Miami realizes they have a season or two before Beasley has some experience and they can really look to put a team in place around him and Wade.

"a solid center, in which they need, with Mihm....."
Who are you kidding? Mihm hasn't played in 2 seasons and wasn't a solid center even before that.
And to suggest the Warriors would trade Harrington and Ellis for Marion is downright ludicrous. You are just throwing out names and contracts that you want the heat to get, regardless of how insane that deal is to the Warriors. By your logic, they could also trade Marion for Kobe because the contract makes sense.
The only place you are correct is the Clippers possibility. But with no expiring contracts to send the Heat, it has little chance of happening.

Why would the Warriors trade their franchise player? Stupid rumor that is.

I can see how the Heat wouldn't want Marion and Beasley since the summer league's shown they are very similar, but I'm not sold on any of these scenarios.
I agree that he'd fit well in LA, but don't see the upside for the Heat. There'd have to be some draft picks or a young player involved. Also, Lakers are way up there in the Luxury tax, so a long term deal would be difficult.
The Warriors just signed Maggette for 50mil and also have Captain Jack at the 3. Nelson would love Marion at the 4, since going small is Nelson's gig, but I can't see Marion looking long term since that's the reason he wanted out of PHO. Plus, after losing Davis, it's just ridiculous to think the W's would let Ellis go in a short sided trade. They could've done a sign and trade with Baron if that was the case. Ellis has been designated by Mullin as the franchise player, he's not going anywhere.
The Clips could definitely use Marion, but what could they offer in return? And would Marion be looking for a long term deal with the Los Angeles D League team? Brand and Maggette abandoned that ship and management has a penchant for making the wrong move. Don't see it.
I'd look for Marion to stick with the team til the trade deadline. In a very weak conference, It is possible that the Heat could be in position for a final playoff spot. If not, they could do much better by trading to a contending team looking for a third scorer.

It's funny how many of these "rumor" stories pop up on Bleacher Report. I prefer to only write about trades teams have publicly discussed.
I can talk about J.R. Smith and Corey Maggette as prospective Spurs because team management has admitted in interviews to attempting trades to get those players. I can also mention names like Carlos Delfino and Roger Mason, guys they have expressed interest in.
Most "rumor" articles start with some guy dreaming up a trade that would help his team and posting the proposal online. The problem is not with the proposals, but with misled writers who take those made up trades and report them as official deals in the works.
That's why one person on this site posted below one of my Spurs stories that Maggette had "reportedly agreed to the full mid level exception.' We know what a bunch of crap that was.
I did some digging online because I wanted to know the source of that rumor. I found a blog post in which a guy said Maggette should settle for the Spurs MLE. It offered reasons why he would fit and how the Spurs could help him. Nowhere in the article did the writer say that Maggette had accepted any offer. Somebody turned that suggestion into a rumor that found its way to hoopsworld.com.
Trade proposals are great, but unless there are official sources or team members openly discussing them, articles like this one should not read like news stories. Instead of "team x and team y are reportedly discussing x trade" say "here's a trade that I think would make sense for both teams" or "here is a trade that the two teams should discuss."
Just a suggestion that I think will improve the quality of trade articles. Good read.

Marion should go to LA Lakers if he wants a contender team.
