WWE Superstars: Can It Rebound?

WWE Superstars was brought back in early 2009 with much hype on WGN America. I thought this was a great idea for WWE, as its previews showed its top stars would compete, including The Undertaker, Chris Jericho, etc.

The original superstars, WWF Superstars of Wrestling, was the flagship of WWF before Monday Night Raw. It even had title matches that were taped but would not be shown for a week or two. It also saw top-tier talent against jobbers.

It has now become a show to watch on a boring Thursday night. Also, as a Canadian WGN-TV chose to remove Superstars from their programming, already depleting its sagging viewership.

A show that has no Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, and Randy Orton, all we see each Thursday are jobbers, no less mid-card talent. The top star that continues appearing in the show is Chris Masters and Santino Marella.

Yep, Santino.

These matches don't even have a storyline to hype it and it's even more surprising to me that it attracts spectators to the show. I stopped watching Superstars a long time ago and i'm just sick of seeing Masterlock challenges every week and just boring matches.

Superstars was brought in to compete with TNA, but as it seems that Impact has permanently moved to Monday nights, I don't see any point of it. At least if you're trying to compete with a rival, at least put your best out there, not jobbers.

Another point is that if you're trying to really attract viewers, maybe try putting it live every night. It's just a suggestion. This is probably not going to happen because of it being shown on WGN.

Speaking of WGN, you can also try putting it out on bigger networks such as ESPN or CBS. This will create more new viewers and more money. If you partner with one of those networks, they'll spend a lot more money than WGN ever will.

The only reason Vince brought back Superstars was to create profit, basically more MONEY. This was going to be a great idea, but now it's just turned into basically a game show.

This brings me to say, you can add Superstars to another failed idea by WWE.
