NASCAR Saturday at Bristol: Allgaier Wins Bristol + Logano & Harvick
Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski Have Their Meeting
Before Nationwide qualifying, Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski had their meeting in the NASCAR hauler with their car owners. As they emerged from the trailer after the meeting, everything seemed cool, as if they were like buddies.
“We laughed, we cried.” Carl said when he was asked about the meeting afterwards.
““I’ve always had a lot of respect for Carl Edwards.” Brad added.
Though, according to Jack Roush, they don’t see eye to eye “but they will give one another enough respect that we don’t seem to have to be worried about another occurrence like that.”
Carl was then asked about the aftermath of last week and said that it doesn’t faze him.
“Anyone can toss pebbles and try to chip away at your character,” he said. “I guess if my biggest fault is standing up for myself, I’ll take it. They can fault me all day for that. It’s real easy to stand back, throw stones, make chirps, and say things that make you feel better about yourself. But in the end, what I said yesterday holds true. The people who know me know that I’m a very fair person.”
Carl went on to say that he thinks the media coverage and how they’ve gone about it is what has blown it up to as big as it is.
“It’s very hard for people to understand that the result is far different then the intent,” Carl said. “Things can be presented in a lot of ways. I guess that’s just part of it. What’s more interesting to me is sometimes it’s about selling ad time or newspapers and not about explaining the story.”
They were seen afterwards joking around discussing their qualifying laps, which they were late for in regards to the proper order.
Nationwide Qualifying
While everybody focused on the Carl Edwards/Brad Keselowski situation, Nationwide qualifying was going on track and multiple drivers were running into issues.
Though these two drivers came back to forefront at the end of qualifying as it was Brad Keselowski taking the pole with a speed of 124.557mph, followed by Joey Logano, Kelly Bires, Carl Edwards, and Greg Biffle.
More spins occurred as Dennis Setzer, Chris Lawson, and Parker Kligerman, which all three ended up going home because of it. Other drivers who went home include Mark Green, Scott Riggs, Jason Bowle, and Brad Teague.
Cup Practice
Jimmie Johnson led first race practice with a speed of 122.725mph, followed by Juan Pablo Montoya, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Joey Logano, with no big issues happening.
Jimmie Johnson also led Happy Hour with a speed of 122.287mph, followed by Matt Kenseth, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jamie McMurray and Joey Logano, with no big issues happening.
Nationwide Race
Justin Allgaier took the lead from teammate Brad Keselowski on lap 273 and never looked back as he scored his first career race.
“I couldn’t be happier,” said Allgaier. “This is an unbelievable win. That battle with Brad at the end was awesome.”
Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top-five.
Harvick Stirs Trouble, Again
Yesterday Harvick stirred trouble with Carl Edwards and today he has stirred trouble with Joey Logano.
For the final laps, Logano and Harvick battled back and forth for fifth, though on the final lap, Harvick spun Logano to get fifth.
"We ran together clean for almost the whole race and then he dumps me on the last lap,” Logano told Jeff Gluck after the race. “I don't understand what he was thinking."
Harvick said that Logano had been chopping him off and “you got to do what you got to do.”
Both driver have spoken, according to Nate Ryan and other key NASCAR media members on twitter. They had a conversation on the way to the motorcoach lot.
