The Original Underrated Footballer: A Tribute To Steven Gerrard!
Well, he's probably not underrated but does Stevie G get enough recognition for his contributions to Liverpool and England?
"Underrated" is a term described as "to rate or evaluate too low; underestimate" in the Cambridge Dictionary, probably not the word usually used to describe Steven Gerrard.
I've been a Manchester United supporter for almost two decades now and I've never made a secret of my admiration of Stevie G (except when he's playing for Liverpool against United).
Gerrard, started out for Whiston Juniors as a right back (thank God he moved to the midfield otherwise Liverpool and World Football would've been deprived of a classic midfielder).
For "underrated" I could've easily picked out someone like Gary Lineker, Paul Gascoigne or Ruud Gullitt but I needed someone who the present generation could relate to.
Steven Gerrard is a magical player, as far as I'm concerned he's unfortunate he's not got enough of the spotlight, I believe he's worthy of being compared to AC Milan's Kaka.
"Magical", it doesn't just go without saying, Gerrard is truly a brilliant player and I'll take you down memory lane to prove it.
13 May 2006, Millenium Stadium, Cardiff, FA Cup Final, Liverpool 2 - 3 West Ham (90th minute)
In stoppage time (90 + 2), Gerrard gets the ball, some 35 yards out! Steven Gerrard strikes from 35 yards out and it's in! What a stunning strike!
Liverpool 3-3 West Ham (Liverpool later won 3-1 on penalties)
25 May 2005, Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Istanbul, UEFA Champions League Final, AC Milan 3 - 0 Liverpool (Half-Time)
In the 54th minute, a succession of Liverpool passes reached John Arne Riise who had two chances to cross the ball, his second attempt found Gerrard who headed the ball into the far corner of the net.
The goal gave Liverpool confidence, and Gerrard was seen urging his team-mates to make a game of it, and urging his team's supporters on (he was passionate, he was emotional, he was desperate, he was being a true leader).
Gerrard tried to motivate his team, he inspired them and Liverpool eventually ended the 90 minutes level with AC Milan courtesy of goals from Vladmir Smicer and Xabi Alonso.
Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan (Liverpool later won 3-2 on penalties)
A true genius, who can strike and score virtually from anywhere on the pitch, "magic" in football has been redefined by Steven Gerrard.
Steven Gerrard has scored 96 goals in 432 career appearances.
"Why is Kaka still more hyped then Stevie G?"
