I remember a couple weeks ago, Tiger Woods called a press confrence. When he stated that he would not be taking questions, the Golf Association (what ever they are called) boycotted, because they were not going to be permitted to ask questions.
Woods came out with his rehearsed speech and basically said, this is my life, this issue is between me and my wife, and I hope everyone can leave my wife and daughter alone.
I can respect that.
Now, Ben Roethlisberger has been accused of "Sexual Misconduct," and all of us here on Bleacher Report, along with every other TV station, Internet site, and everyone with a pen and paper, feel we have the right not only to speak of his innocence or guilt, but the path for the rest of his life.
It is NONE of our business.
Let's take a look at some of the facts.
Ben Roethlisberger is a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback. He is the starter at the most important position on the field. He has numerous records to his credit already, and he is AMAZINGLY rich.
He is also a 28-year-old single man.
What happened in the situation with the first lady that accused him of RAPING her? She did not go to the police, she waited until the statue of limitations was almost up, and filed a civil suit.
Almost every person that writes for this site instantly said that she is a fool, a gold digger, and was only in it for the money.
The prosecutor in Nevada said that he would not even consider a criminal charge, because it has been so long that there is no evidence they would be able to gather.
Now, we have a second case.
This time, Roethlisberger is not being accused of RAPE, but sexual assault. This is anything from rape to accidentally touching her. None of us know what the real charge is to this point.
Here is what we KNOW about what happened. Ben entered a bathroom with a drunk, 20-year-old college student. What happens after that, NONE OF US HAVE ANY IDEA!
People are saying that the Steelers need to cut him, trade him (Yes, I am guilty), or he should go to jail.
As far as any of us know, Ben did exactly what the first girl said, and raped the second girl in the bathroom.
And as far as any of us know, Ben did NOTHING to either of these women.
My point to this article is this; until any of us know what really happened, or at least what is being said happened, why don't we all just take a deep breath, relax, and wait until something of substance comes out before we go on a witch hunt?
If ANY of us were ever accused of these crimes, we would deserve the benefit of the doubt. Don't you think Ben deserves the same?
